Feeling guilty after a splurge...

Ridiculous I know but I've just treat myself to an IPL after humming and hahing about one for years had a great 10% deal on topcashback and was less than half price in Boots. I'm trying to tell myself it's even better deal as I've gotten £37 back in TCB and £18 worth of points on advantage card.
I can afford it and know it's crazy but I feel dreadful spending over £300 on one thing, I feel guilty if I pay more than £30 on a pair of shoes usually. Know it's irrational. Does anyone else get the same?
I never treat myself and for once just got a fk it moment 😂. Was my birthday on Sunday aswell. I just want justification hahaha.

Go for it

Quincythequince · 02/11/2022 12:58

What’s an IPL?

What’s an IPL?

It's a laser hair removal device.

Ah, right ok.
Well, whatever floats your boat.

If you can afford it and you’re happy with it, why not.

SnipSnipMrBurgess · 02/11/2022 13:08

Any links? I'm treating myself to one soon as well.

JiggingJigsaws · 02/11/2022 13:14

Ha! You could be me. I bought one a few weeks ago and felt really guilty, I'm paying it off in 6 instalments over three months.

But my guilt has faded now that I've used it three times and my leg hair is practically non existent ! You won't regret it

Rather than look at the price as a whole, work out how long that item will last you and how often you will use it. For example, I bought myself a lovely bag some years ago and whilst it was not cheap, it has currently worked out less than £96 a year. The longer I have it the cheaper it works out.

pizzatheactions · 02/11/2022 13:16

They're amazing! I love mine, can't use it at the moment as pregnant and sorely missing it

Quincythequince · 02/11/2022 13:21

Forgive my ignorance here ( I am very fair ne have almost no body hair so don’t really think much about its removal), but is this a modern day equivalent of an epilady? So it rips the hair out by the root.

If so, how long generally does the smoothness last for?

This is a particulalry good idea here, as you can work out hoiw much it'll save you in the long run in Razers/hair removal cream/waxing

You're saving money with this splurge OP!

No. It "kills" the hair so should be permanent.

The Philips Lumea didn’t work well for me at all so I wonder if this one would be any better!

So you use it once on your leg for example and no hair will grow back. Ever?

bigfamilygrowingupfast · 02/11/2022 13:50

I always feel dreadful spending money on myself! No idea why - I work hard but I always feel horrendously guilty 😂

I'm not an expert but my understanding is it kills around 50% of the hair, then next time 50% of what's left, then next time 50% of what's left again. So each use the hair gets less thick and after a year or so of regular use you shouldn't need it any more.

But it also depends on the type of hair and skin tone - the darker the hair and lighter the skin the better it works

JiggingJigsaws · 02/11/2022 14:41

@Quincythequince I think you also might find it starts to grow back after a couple of years and need to top-up or use it very intermittently.

I cannot believe the effect it's having on my leg hairs already. I would have gross stubble after a day and I still have silky smooth legs even though I shaved them Saturday morning before I last used it - I have the Philips Lumea.

I was also dubious whether it would work properly on me at the moment as my legs are still pretty tanned from the summer. They'll eventually go white but they're still quite sallow looking right now.

Do update us @Diedre44 on how you get on, I noticed a difference after one use. Enjoy!

Tothemoonandbackx · 02/11/2022 15:39

I'm desperate to get an IPL, I have PCOS and the dreaded hair growth that comes with it. I usually go to have my lip and chin threaded every couple of weeks, and my mum said why don't I get an IPL as I'd be saving money in the long run, but my bank balance can't take a hit in one go like that at the minute. I definitely wouldn't feel guilty 😊
