Should I move next to tennis court?

I've been trying to find a rental to live for ages and finally got accepted on a lovely little one bed cottage. It's in a great area and perfect for me.
However it's right next to a park and the community tennis court is just a few feet from the house. I didn't worry about it at first as thought tennis isn't too noisy but I saw recently that some of the residents nearby have complained to the council about the noise. In the winter it's also used as a 5 a side football pitch so don't know if this is the issue or the tennis.

I'm quite noise sensitive so worried this may trigger my anxiety if it is very noisy but impossible to know how bad it could be. I'm sofa surfing at the moment and technically homeless which is also awful for my mental health and this is the only decent property I've been able to get. I'm going to have to move to the house but am super stressing about noise.

AIBU in thinking this could be a potential problem?

My worry would be youths hanging around in the evening making noise. This is what you often get around park areas.

Our neighbour plays basket ball in the summer and the constant banging of the ball on the concrete sends me over the edge. I’d guess it would be a pretty similar noise.

@torgirl Do you want to be living the other side of the country?

it doesn't sound like you have really looked into the nature of the noise complaints? You need to get more information on who is complaining & exactly what they're complaining about?

how big an area have you been searching for a place?

SkylightSkylight · 02/11/2022 14:02

@torgirl Have you viewed the property or just taking it after looking at it online?

Even If I'd been looking for ages & was homeless/sofa surfing, I'd still want to see it in person to check it's not damp. I've never been on a council waiting list but from what I've heard from a friend & on here, aren't you in a better position to get somewhere when homeless? If that's correct I'd want to be more sure of the place before accepting, especially a 1 bed, as I'm sure there would be fewer house seats available?!

if it was a sound & dry place & the 'noise complaints' aren't anti social behaviour in the park, I'd take it & do everything to make it a warm, cosy place of my own for this winter & take it from there.

If you live near a tennis court you'll get plenty of love

Sounds like a good idea to take the cottage and maybe get some noise cancelling headphones or ear pods for when there’s activity at the courts. Hope it works out for you.
