Everything is so bloody awful at the moment… our awful government, the Ukraine, people not being able to afford food / heating, natural disasters, bridges collapsing, god-awful rapes…

Has anyone please got any heart-warming stories to share? I really feel the world needs them right now 💐 Thank you

I run out of cat food yesterday (they had tinned food but are fussy buggers) so my cats brought me a rat and a mouse. Left them in tact in the kitchen.
Not what you or I was asking for but hey ho.

BottomlessPit · 01/11/2022 22:57

Generous cats! Love it 😍

Funny how a crap and argumentative thread attracts people like shit round flies but a happy thread dosent.

What a shame.

I had never seen a photo of my great-grandparents until this week. Now I have copies of a photo of each of them which turned up in an elderly relatives house. Now I can look at them, and can see family resemblances in several relatives. I'm very happy as I never knew the photos existed, and never thought that I would know what they looked like.

I love this, I bet it was amazing seeing them for the first time but also strange to see resemblance to living family members!

Good climate news, the ozone is shrinking - link here

BottomlessPit · 02/11/2022 15:54

That’s a nice story. It must feel nice to see your roots and those resemblances. 💕

Oh dear, I've done it again. Every thread I post on quickly dies. And this was such a nice idea!

I had a lovely chat with my dad last night . We went 21 years without seeing each other, now we talk every 2-3 days and I can tell him I love him now without feeling uncomfortable . I’m glad I have him .

Opened my Gas/Electric bill literally feeling ill only to discover I'm nearly £300 in credit. Was not expecting that.

DS’s birthday is next month, and his big sister came out of after school club last week with a birthday card she’d made for him that she’s going to hide in her room until his birthday.

I took my three young kids (five and under) on a jaunt to London Bridge this morning. Not only did everyone cooperate/not poo inconveniently/not scream or whinge at all, but my eldest DD was comp’d an amazing melting snowman cookie at Pret which absolutely made her day. She shared it with us and has been walking around smiling to herself since.

Plus it has finally stopped raining here.

My brother who hadn't been in touch for 20 years emailed me last year out of the blue to wish me happy birthday and we've had some great meetups since then, the most recent brunch on Monday. And he has bought a lovely flat with two bedrooms so his son doesn't have to sleep on the sofa when he visits.

summergone · 04/11/2022 15:04

@MrsDanversGlidesAgain ah that's lovely after all those years !

MrsDanversGlidesAgain · 04/11/2022 15:06

It certainly was. A huge surprise as I'd pretty much given up any hope of hearing from him and was resigned to hearing how he was via our sibling.

And it's been a lovely sunny day here, and it's Friday.

Like many children, my kind, sweet daughter had severe mental health issues during lockdown, and A levels. Self harm, lots of tears, and an awful lot of pressure put on her, both by herself and her school (😡), esp around getting the grades to go to Uni.
We tried to support her as best we could, but it was a difficult time for all of us.
She's now decided not to go to Uni, and has found herself a job. Two months in, and she looks glowing, her skin is healing, and she's starting to laugh and have fun again.
Last night we played a board game together, listening to music, just relaxing, and it was the loveliest thing in the world. 💕

I got a tax rebate this morning Grin

Some lovely stories on here - just what we need!

Mine is that I've just booked a holiday!

It's a cottage in a scenic part of the UK and is very cheap as it's in Feb.

It's basically an alternative to Christmas which we won't be celebrating due to complicated family dynamics.

Planning to walk, visit local scenic areas and come back to books, candles and jigsaws in front of the log fire.

Bliss!

Went to my daughter's graduation this week. I was so proud when I saw her walking across the stage to collect her scroll from college president I burst into tears as did her dad and grandmother and her siblings watching it outside cried too. When DD was ten months old she contracted a virus that left her with physical, mental and education issues. She has battled so hard and so long to overcome these as have all our family. There were some very tough dark times that we couldn't see any light and many battles with support services to try to get her where she should be not where they thought she should go. Eight long years later she graduated with a degree in science. I'm tearing up again writing this. It shows that you should never give up on your dreams. There will still be challenged and bad days ahead but we've climbed the mountain

BottomlessPit · 05/11/2022 08:10

Thank you, these stories are fantastic.
Small one here but my hub just did the early morning kids’ sports run and is bringing me a coffee back 🙌

My 3 year old willingly shared crisps with her 6 year old sister today. We're irish abroad and they were tayto so it's a pretty big deal I was quite proud.

MrsTopaz · 05/11/2022 08:18

My children would love a dog, but it’s too much commitment currently. My lovely friend is letting us borrow one of her two dogs tomorrow… just for the day so that he can have lots of individual attention and my dc get to love and care for a dog. If it works we may do this regularly. Can’t wait!

OrangePumpkinLobelia · 05/11/2022 08:22

I made an amazing and simple pasta dish last night that my child who has sensory issues and learning issues and who does not eat properly lapped up. he even asked for seconds. It was just pasta, pasta sauce, tiny sausage meatballs, leeks, with cream cheese mixed in to make it creamy.

DS1 is nearly 13 and has neither ever finished a meal or asked for seconds. I had to hide in the kitchen to hide my tears of joy!

KTheGrey · 05/11/2022 08:22

@MrsTopaz what a brilliant idea! Everybody wins.

reallyworriedjobhunter · 05/11/2022 08:27

My beloved cat won't sleep on my bed but this week I put a chair next to my bed and he has slept there every night - like a cat bedside cot.

We are both happy. I can see him and reach him in the night and he isn't bumped about by the kids who sneak into my bed in the wee hours.
