Aibu to consider cancelling my trip to London?

I travel from york to London 04/11 and London to york 06/11

Train strikes are 05/11 and 07/11.

I really don't know what to do. Advice from Londoners would be great!

You won't be affected unless you're taking one if tbe eatly trains.

As said, the early trains the day after the strike days may not start as early. But you lso need to check end of the day trains. Not sure if it's the same north-bound but SWT are saying last trains out of Waterloo to Southampton etc will be about 17:00!

I was supposed to go on next Tuesday. Early trains not as early s normal is a pain but manageable, but don't fancy my changes of trying to get on the last train out of Waterloo, it'll be rammed.

Husband is due to fly out of Heathrow for work on train strike day. He doesn't drive, and work will only cover the cost of public transport to get there (public sector). I have work things I can't get out of or delay that day (basically it's the day the past year has been building up to). Looks like he will have to fork out £100+ to get a cab which we really can't afford.

Ime doesn't seem to matter if there is a strike or not , still a high risk of trains being cancelled . It's a shambles at the moment

Well that's a very fair point!

How annoying and upsetting for you.

As a previous poster said. What time are your trains. If they are from 9:30am to 7pm on both days. You will be fine. Even if you have an early train and it gets cancelled, you can get another a little later. I would be travelling down on your dates and enjoying the trip. Once you’re in London. You have the benefit of the tube.

Fucking sick of the shit public transport in this country. If its not strikes its cancellations, overcrowding, delays and general shambolic service. Have various work trips planned between now and Christmas and not confident will make any of them

If his flight is early morning- get a train to Heathrow the night before.

Surely there must be an exception for something like this? Or would they put him up in a hotel near the airport the night before? I know they need to manage costs and it's right that they do, but when it's something out of your control you/he shouldn't be penalised for it.

To answer the OP's question - your outbound should be fine. As long as your return is in the afternoon it shouldn't be any more unpredictable than usual. I absolutely wouldn't try to travel the morning after a strike after seeing how badly it went for colleagues trying that after the last one!

BananaChunk · 01/11/2022 20:00

As long as the trains are not early or late it should be fine
