To be upset about the frog? (TW: not for the squeamish)

I opened my back door this morning to put something in the recycling and spotted what looked like a leaf on the back door step. As I bent down to remove it I realised it was a dead frog!

The poor frog must have hopped into the kitchen and been on his way out when I shut the back door. He was trapped by a back leg, I think (I didn't look closely, as I am incredibly squeamish about dead creatures, for some reason). I'm really upset to think that I have killed a frog, which probably suffered in the process.

And I have no idea what to do about it, because I am so squeamish about things like this (which is weird, because I am fine with blood and gore, trained first aider etc). There should be a service you can call to deal with dead things imo!

That’s a shock for you this morning Op. When I find dead things (quite often unfortunately as I have two furry assassins) I wrap up in tissue and put in the outside bin.

Except for the dead fox under the trampoline. I called the council for that ones.

Try not to feel bad about Kermit. It was an accident.

Pick it up with a shovel or trowel and either wrap it in a couple of carrier bags then in an outside bin or - depending on your garden and local wildlife - throw it in a dark corner where the birds can eat it.

I'd find it difficult to be upset about something as miniscule as this - it was only an accident, not your fault.

It was an accident! Don't get any cats, there'll be dead things on your doorstep forevermore 😆

Put it in a food bag and stick it in the wheelie bin.

I thought I wouldn't have to deal with any more dead things after I lost the last of my lakeland terriers a couple of years ago. She was nicknamed "The Terminator", and her record was 3 rats in 5 days, left on the lawn. And she once killed a hedgehog, the utter baggage.

My late DP used to deal with the bodies, and tomorrow is the anniversary of his death, so it was yet another reminder of the myriad ways in which I miss him.

I'll just have to don my big girl pants, and thanks for the suggestion of using a trowel.

I feel like such a useless twat though, I'd rather face down a mugger armed with a knife than touch a dead animal. I had to drive round a dead deer on a rural road on Sunday night, and practically gagged at the sight of it. I'm quite unphased by anything else!

Another way is to grab a bit of kitchen roll and use that to pick it up, wrap it up and drop into your general waste bin.

Sport about your late DH, Flowers for the anniversary.

Tillow4ever · 01/11/2022 13:07

*Sorry not sport!

LakieLady · 01/11/2022 13:11

Lol, thanks @Tillow4ever .

It's raining so hard here, I'm half hoping poor dead frog will get washed away.

This is a true story. We had a problem with the sump pump on the land at the back of our house. I sent dh to investigate. He lifted the lid to find a massive front/toad sitting on the lid. He got a spade, coaxed the toad onto it, they with some force threw it onto the field next door. Except it didn’t land in the field. It had a direct hit onto a massive tree and slowly slid down it leaving a bloody trail in its wake.
Dh was mortified! Poor toad.
Didn’t help that for Christmas that year I bought him a crate of wine called Splattered Toad …

I came down this morning to a murder - headless mouse in one part of the study, guts in another bit and a tail by the door

thankfully I didn't have my glasses on so scooped it up without thinking too much about it - my beautiful floofy black cat who looks like an angel likes to crunch mouse heads - so my guess is it was her.

Chardonnay73 · 01/11/2022 13:29

@ghostyslovesheets I think you know the dh I am referring to!! Someone who's house you should have visited last week 😜 We must reschedule that!!

ghostyslovesheets · 01/11/2022 13:33

Ha! Hello @Chardonnay73 hope you are feeling better mate x
