Some may think this is crackers, but I wish someone had told me about this sooner. I learnt this from a friend and I absolutely love the result and another 2 of my friends are doing this now too. Aside from the cost/faff saving, stopping hair dye has made my hair much less dry and frizzy, plus stopped my itchy scalp issues.
Main points of this method:
-
It involves cutting only the most prominent hairs out, cutting close to the scalp. (Not plucking because plucking can damage the hair follicle and lead to hair thinning). So I focus on the hairs around my hairline/temples and around my parting, plus thinning out grey blocks/patches. But you leave grey hairs that are underneath your top layer of hair - these are so much less visible anyway.

It's easiest to do when your hair is wet. Part your hair in different places, holding it in place with a butterfly clip. Then lift out the grey hair and snip it close to the scalp with nail scissors. I do it around every 2 months, although some annoying really prominent hairs around my temples I do around once a month. When you re-cut these hairs after the first time, it's much easier to spot the shorter grey hairs when you part your wet hair and much quicker to do overall.

It won't work if you have too much grey. If you're interested, this method is briefly discussed in this article:

I plan to carry on doing this until I have too much grey. Then I will probably just go a little more grey gradually (i.e. by leaving a few more grey hairs uncut each time). Hope this might help some people looking to save money but who still want to do something about their grey.
