12 yo trick or treat

My 12 yo ds is sulking because I've said he's too old to trick or treat. His younger sister is going. Am I being mean?

Ok, I've admitted I am being unreasonable and I'm trying to sort it out. Panic costume prep!

My 13yo isn't going this year (but went last year). I think it's borderline at this age.

They missed out on a couple of years due to covid. As long as they're polite, I'd be happy to hand over some sweets.

Bellsbeachwaves · 31/10/2022 19:03

Yabu but you're trying to sort it. Even the teenagers go out round here - it's a whole town sort of affair

BMW6 · 31/10/2022 19:10

I've just had 3 teen boys (probably 13/14) knock. Not dressed up, no make up, just a mumble "trick or treat?"

I said (laughingly) come on guys, you've not put in any effort so no!

I don't feel mean. They went off OK. Hope I don't get egged later (though I know exactly who they are and where they live) 😏

YANBU what I've always said to mine is when your old enough to go on your own your to old

sunglassesonthetable · 31/10/2022 19:25

I think it's the perfect age to go and have a bit of fun doing it independently.

Lizzim18 · 31/10/2022 21:10

I refused to open the door tonight to a group of teenagers who made absolutely no effort. No costumes at all, no treats!

Uh oh! Thanks everyone. I need to go and apologise and find him something to wear.

Op I love that you have changed your mind, are going to apologise and let him go. You sound like a brilliant parent. Hope he has an amazing time. 💖

Well done OP.

On another thread a poster wrote " refusing to change your mind, regardless, is an adult version of a tantrum ".

I'm not saying you have to bend to every whim but changing your mind after consideration and apologising is being a great role model to your son.
