To not understand how to WFH in new house with no internet yet?

Posting in AIBU for traffic. I’m moving in to my new home in 2 weeks which has been empty for quite a while, so doesn’t have a working phone line. I need to work from home from day one, so my question is, does anyone have any ideas what I need to buy as a stop gap measure so my iPad, computer, tv can connect to the internet? I know years ago I used to have a dongle to plug into my laptop for emergencies, but is this still the best solution? Is there any sort of wifi device that I could put a data only sim in or similar? Has anyone else had this issue and found a good solution?
thank you!

Your provider can send a dongle

WireSkills · 31/10/2022 17:14

Three PAYG SIMs are really good value for the amount of data you get, assuming you're in a good signal location.

Get an old (or current) phone unlocked and use that as your wifi hotspot.

My home Internet is a bit rubbish so I tether to my phone when wfh as it's more reliable

BT send you something you can use for accessing the internet while you wait for installation, if you plan to use BT?

I used my work phone to hot spot when we moved and I was considering a home WiFi thing from Amazon.

Get a data only SIM; and use this in your phone while you hotspot

4g router, I got one from Vodafone last year when we moved, we had to wait 6 weeks for our broadband to be installed. The 4g router worked a treat.

We had a BT 5G dongle thing for a few weeks that was ok. It couldn't handle 2 lots of video calling at the same time but would be fine if it's just you at home.

Find a WiFi shared office space. There are a few about. You can plug into a hotdesk on provided WiFi.

I work from home and have a lot of meetings that I can't miss.

I have Vodafone mobile broadband as a back up to my home WiFi, OP.

It's like this:

When I lost WiFI for the day I headed off to Costa, used thier WiFI .. I’ve also worked from a local pub, and Tesco Cafe

EvilRingahBitch · 31/10/2022 19:31

Depends on your job - my employers would take a very dim view to me working in Costa on their wi-fi.

That's why a hot desk in a proper office is a better idea. Just Google hot desks near me.

Hot spotting.

V easy to do but be aware if you use for things like streaming it eats through data scarily fast.

fishonabicycle · 02/11/2022 17:10

Book your WiFi provider to run it in day after you move.
