Sports injury

Unashamed use of AIBU for traffic.

DS 12 came down badly on his knee at football yesterday. Bruised, painful and swollen. Coach said to keep it moving so it doesn't go to stiff, was happy with the fact that they can weight bear and move knee/leg/foot normally and said ice and elevation.

But as first time proper sports injury at what point do we go to get it checked?

Just to to A&E and get it checked. That's what it's for.

Minor injuries if you have one?

Itstheprinciple123 · 31/10/2022 11:14

was there a popping sound when it happened? I would get it checked just to be sure though personally

I'd give it a day or two.
Yes I'd be moving it as normally as possible but only when needed. Would still be resting it a lot for the next day or so. I've had countless knee injuries from sports.
If the pain stays the same or increase after another then I would get it checked.

Increases after another day*

Go to your nearest minor injuries. I've been there today to get my foot checked out, in and out in an hour, as opposed to 6 hours or more at my local emergency dept

If you can afford it, I’d say get him to a good physio. 1 session should be enough to teach him how best to treat it, and if you do need anything more, they will advise you & you can then go to NHS

Thanks, will head to urgent care or whatever it's called now
