To think the drain blockage & flies are connected

For some weeks, I have had a little fly issue in my kitchen and upstairs in my bathroom. I thought they were fruit flies.

My little son, who is on the autistic spectrum uses lots of toilet paper, so the one toilet we have started to back up and yesterday I had to have the drains jetted from the bottom of the soil stack (outside the house) into the horizontal soil pipe outside.

Suddenly it feels like there is a population explosion of tiny flies in the kitchen. Finding this terribly stressful as a single mum.

Have people had this before? I feel at the
end of my tether after all this. Using fruit fly ninja to capture tiny flies.

What can I do, to sort these horrible things out?

I don’t know anything about drains.

I have had loads of tiny flies recently. I realised they were living in a house plant in the lounge, thankfully some stick traps sorted them out. Hope you get it sorted soon! Kill as many as you can.

We've had them this week and our source was the pumpkin we had carved 🎃

They could be fungus gnats (which live in the compost of houseplants), or drain flies. Drain flies are easy to deal with; put some bleach down the plug hole and then put in the plug, just before you go to bed.

Lots of boiling water down your sink and copious amounts of washing up liquid.I've just managed to get rid of ours by doing this. They're an absolute nuisance.

Get a bidet attachment for your toilet for your ds.

Drain flies. Little fuckers.

LadyMcFly · 01/11/2022 23:04

Thank you all! What is a bidet attachment for the
loo?

Right, I will pulverize the drains. It is like they have evolved and now they are way smarter than me.

A bidet attachment for the loo is like a mini shower head that gets plumbed into the water intake, so you can wash instead of using loads of paper. Our shower is right next to the loo and we've managed to free the shower head to use that which is preferable to cold water in winter imo.

If the drain flies have evaded all attempts to remove them, fill the sinks with water and let it run into the overflow, then add some bleach.

I recently had drain flies they are a bugger to get rid of

get some red vinegar and put a little bowl of the vinegar in the sick they are attracted to the smell and will drown themselves

also pour lots of boiling water and bleach down the sink

Thanks. Honestly I am going insane with them. They should be paying the mortgage.
