Unashamedly posting for traffic. Sorry.

I've been invited to a party (tonight) at someone's home.

They're not big drinkers, often dieting and have lots of scent and floral based allergies. What do I take? I've never been to their home before so don't know their decorating tastes either.

I'm on a tight budget so £10 max really.

I thought a non-flowering plant... Like a succulent... ?

I know I sound thick but due to adverse life I haven't ever been invited to this sort of thing, despite being in my 30s...

You can buy a nice bouquet of flowers for less than £10 at a supermarket. Or a candle?

beonmywaythen · 29/10/2022 11:50

I'd say unless you know they like succulents don't get them anything they have to keep for a long time or take care of

As my op said, the hostess has floral allergies. So no flowers. Sorry I wasn't clear.

Nice tea ?

Youdoyoutoday · 29/10/2022 11:54

I'd still go with wine, even if they're not big drinkers doesn't mean they won't have a glass of wine at a party.

Some dried flowers? My friend once bought me a bunch of dried physalis (Chinese lanterns), I love them.

Some naice soft drinks, elderflower or rose lemonade?

Nice tea ?

I like this. I can pose it as 'somrthing to unwind with once they've sent us all home'...

Crikey that rules out most of my go tos of wine, chocs, flowers or house plant!

What about a tea light candle in a holder (unscented), a little bowl for nibbles, specialty tea or coffee, box of posh cracker biscuits.
They may still serve wine tonight so I'm sure that would also be appreciated.

Nice box of chocolates

Precisely. Whilst I've never been out to these things I know the conventions, but my lovely new friend rules these out (all for very valid reasons).

I'm liking the suggestions of nice tea. I might pair it with a good cup and pack of biscuits. Ready to relax at the end of the party when we've all left.

I think a succulent is a nice idea. Or a nice box of biscuits.

When I hosted a friend for a couple of days she brought me a nice tea towel and a set of hand painted red coasters from a local (to her) craft shop. Loved them!

They weren't red, I don't know where that came from lol

Tea is a nice idea but I'd not give a cup - hostess gifts are normally consumables rather than things to keep.

Unless you know they're people with a collection of mismatched mugs and like to add to the collection, it probably wouldn't be used
