Have the your housing association ever come round to do a check? As in check how well you are looking after the property and the condition etc?

There's a couple of home improvements I've asked to do in my home which I have just got the keys for but I've been told no.

Both my neighbours have told me just to do it but I'm worried I'd get into trouble for it. It's nothing major - literally a kitchen sink and a new front door (the current one is falling to bits and I don't feel it's secure enough)

I've been told to ask again in a year. I just wondered if they ever do checks?

When they do checks they are checking the property is in good shape and being looked after they are not checking you have the same sink from 5 years ago, our houses got new fitted kitchens put in by our housing association but I and others refused them as our own fitted kitchen we put in was much better they just said OK.

Hi mumsnet
I am new to mums net and have never used a forum or twitter or anything like. This I am disabled which isn't relivent but I some how thought I should mention this now to my conundrum. For the past few months I've been wait for my landlord to do repairs i still say after the repair to be fixed its not but he says different. Now he offered me a sum of money for the repairs Taking so long but it's been a month since I accepted his offer. He's not paid I sent a letter recorded to him 3 weeks after he offered asking if I could hSVE goodwill gesture put in my bank he's ignored that letter. PLEASE can someone advise me what to do. I have the offer in writing company headed note paper. What should I do because he seems to be ignoring me now. I haven't contacted him again since 2 weeks ago now were moving in to month 2 since his offer. Should I just give up on it or hold him to his word. The 3 month it took to repair was hell 5 attempts to fix this rude workmen because you asked for a drop cloth to protect my carpets which are all new it was so frustrating and my carer is getting frustrated at them upsetting me the sloppyest workmen you've ever see.

From what I've seen you can do anything you like to the property - congratulations for securing one - from someone renting privately in a previously owned council building with neighbours renting from the council for 1K less/month and doing impressive DIY projects. Noone will come and check, nor will they have documentation of what door was in place when you moved in

@bettyfreddy hi there, I know this post is from a couple of years ago but just wanted to ask you something about the introductory 12 month period and secure tenancy. As it's been 2 years since your post, I'm sure you've now moved onto your secure tendency? Can I just ask what the process is for this? Do you need to sign a new contract for the secure tenancy? Do they need to come and check the house is in good condition etc before you sign? How does it work exactly?

Every organisation is different but in general terms yes they should do a check of property condition, see if rent account has been maintained positively and no ASB/noise nuisance. Then they’ll offer secure tenancy.
