To ask for a real opinion on this sketch

First time really sketching, this is my second one. Really enjoying it and people are saying the sketch is good (obviously not a masterpiece 🤣). But these people I'm showing are my friends and family.

Can I ask real opinions on whether this is any good and whether I show any promise in doing sketching? Obviously it's my second picture and I have no idea what I'm doing so the lips are fucked, I'm sure the shading is horrendous. And the hair isn't done.

How do you get better at this stuff? Just practice?

Thanks in advance

Pp are saying the eyes are too high, but I think her head is at an angle, isn't it? We are looking at her from below. She has her chin up in the air? I'm no expert though. It looks good to me! My daughter has a similar style, anime style.

I thinks it’s great! Looks like a Disney sketch from when the artists are doing the drawings for animation. I couldn’t draw anything close to being that good.
also your name is visible on the bottom of the last pic your posted.

I like it. You've definitely got bags of potential.

I'm saying one eye is higher than the other. My husband is an artist and another family member an illustrator. The proportions of the face are something op can work on. Obviously the ability is there.

I like it, I definitely think you have a natural ability. I bet if you wanted to, you could get better with practice, maybe even some hobby classes to learn technique?

It wasn't your post I was referring to. Another poster was saying the eyes were too high in the head.

nocoolnamesleft · 29/10/2022 18:11

The eyes are too high unless the model has significant microcephaly. Still better than I could do.

LemonSwan · 29/10/2022 18:23

I think the proportions give character so I wouldn’t change that to be ‘perfect’.

The nose and eyebrows are really good actually.

What I would do is start adding in the details which make it more realistic.

So eyes need a bit of work; you add the two lines before the eyeliner so a visible waterline. Same on the inner upper corner and then a flick for the inner tear drop corner like you have done for the crease of the nose. Another crease above the outer corner of the eye for the fold.

Same with the lips. More creases.

Neck too, more creases but be bold don’t panic if it’s not exact or fully detailed.

You have a lot of promise for a second attempt. And you have confidence your lines which is great. It’s finding the perfect balance between over worked and under worked that makes great sketching to me and your nearly there.

OctopusBreath · 29/10/2022 18:27

It looks like a really good manga drawing. Please carry on!

Michiru · 29/10/2022 19:38

Looks good - I like the angle you went for. But please tell me this isn't your real name @inthemornin
