Has anyone's fuel bill decreased?

I was paying £150 for combined gas and electric from EON. That included some of a debit balance I was paying off. I'm on their variable tariff as there was no option to fix anything unless I went for a tariff that was going to be £300 a month. I live in a 4 bed modern townhouse with a rubbish heating system. No combi boiler so the water is on for about half an hour a day. Gas hob. Electric oven. I use the drier occasionally but the washer and dishwasher every day. There's one adult and 2 dc here. My bill has decreased to £83 this month and next with the £60 from the government. I was told back in September my bill would go up to £183 in December but that's nothing compared to what people on here are saying they are paying. The heating isn't on yet but I'd be out all day most days so it won't be on for more than about 5 hours a day when it does go on.
Has anyone else had their bill decrease?

We have gone from £135 a month to £115. Still using washer and tumble dryer most days.

As soon as we notices signs on the news energy company's were having issues, I canceled my existing plan and paid the early termination fees and got fixed until Dec 2024.

We posted on Facebook and told people at the time, but most people just ignored it, surprisingly there is a benefit to keeping up with current events and politics but most people say its boring and they are not interested. Well it isn't now is it.

my friend dosent think there is a cost of living crisis. She keeps telling me her bills gone down. Everyone is paying more for their gas and electricty now but she dosent get it.

Since fitting solar panels, yes, though of course it will be a while until I break even from them.

Thelnebriati · 28/10/2022 14:37

Yes, but only because we've put a lot more effort into saving energy.

girlfriend44 I honestly don't know how you have the patience.

TropicalDrink · 28/10/2022 14:43

Yes for now because it’s been warmer than usual here in the uk and I’ve been putting the heat on a lot less. Some days not at all. I’ve been wearing 2 layers of wool jumpers on some days.

My father uses so little power that the £400 from the government actually more than covers his total bill for the next six months.

FrenchOnionShoeBox · 28/10/2022 15:04

Yes.

Our monthly bill “pre-crisis” was £96 for electricity and gas.

It was increased to £146 per month when everything started increasing in price.

As of this month it’s reduced to £79 per month.

My DD hasn’t changed and I’m over a month in credit. So glad I didn’t fix.

Pointblank2 · 28/10/2022 15:08

My usage has definitely decreased. Scottish Power have a nice little function where you can see your usage on a graph against last year in KWH. I’m still using the dryer and we are having the heating on for the odd hour. I’m just being more mindful and not using power willynilly. My house used to be like Blackpool illuminations as no one switched lights off and was always very warm, this begs the question of how much could we have saved over the years by being as mindful as we are now!

Manasprey · 28/10/2022 15:27

Ourselves went from 117 to 50. 4 bed house. Heating hasn't been on yet, but tumble dryer has. I'm going to use it to pay for my petrol, which is up to about 1.69 again. And no one appears to be complaining about that, even though it's the one fuel I can do fuck all about.

Whiskers4 · 28/10/2022 15:39

Our new payment us £69pm which includes deduction of £66 odd from government. Last winter we were paying £65pm. We're trying to be more careful and Bulb calculated last months use was down. We have a credit of £335 mainly due to larger direct debit payments in the summer, so hoping with decreased use, we'll be in credit next April when higherprices kick back in (we normally break even then)

YoBeaches · 28/10/2022 15:56

So you were paying £150 a month. The government is subsiding a £67 a month which makes your bill £83 until
April. If the price cap goes up then it could go up during that time but you'd still be eligible for the government discount.

Goldencarp · 28/10/2022 16:03

i made loads of changes at home and am paying the same as we were before all the increases and have built up £1000 credit which I hope will see us through winter. It won’t help come Jan or April though when prices are expected to increase by 73% 😕

Blueberrydelight · 28/10/2022 16:24

I was paying £66 electric and £145 gas direct debit per month.
I assumed mydirect debit would be increasing this month but it's now at £62 electric and £145 gas.
I also had the £66 government payment, so currently paying less.

KangarooKenny · 28/10/2022 16:38

Actually, I’ve just looked at my account and the DD went down £20 in August.
Cant see the government payment yet, but I know my DF has had his.

Kite22 · 28/10/2022 16:41

I mean mine is lower in Oct from what it was in Sept, due to my supplier knocking £67 (I think from memory) off the bill for each of the Winter months by using the £400 every bill payer has been given. So the simple answer is yes.

I am quite well in credit through it going up a phenomenal amount at Easter, but obviously using very little heating between Easter and now. Looking at the figures, that credit seems likely to be going to be used over the Winter.

However, I'm not paying off debt.
If you were paying off debt and now have a clear balance, then it would seem likely your bill would go down due to that, separately from the money everyone is getting via their suppliers to 'ease the burden'. However if you have no credit at the start of Winter, then it would seem likely your bill will go up, once you start needing the heating.

TeefAsseblief · 28/10/2022 16:46

Octopus have dropped my DD by around £70. Its because I'm around £500 in credit.
