Facebook groups and photo sharing

For years, I've noticed that in some of the local facebook groups I'm on someone will come along and post a photo of a random person, usually with some warning, "watch out of this man, he was watching the children in the playground today" or "this man shoplifted at my local Tesco - if you see him, call the police". That kind of thing. And I always find it annoying because it smacks of vigilantism and who knows who these people really are or if they're guilty of any of these offences.

But recently, it's CHILDREN and it's really starting to wind me up. We've had picture of a child who apparently stole a bike and has been reported to the police. We had pictures of children who were apparently being too boisterous in the park. We've had pictures of children ringing doorbells and running way.

AIBU to find this deeply inappropriate? If there's someone posting a picture of these children, there's someone out there who will use that picture to bully or harass those children if they see them. Plus, who knows what safeguarding issues there are - if a child is being naughty does that also mean they deserve to be outed if they are trying to escape a domestic violence situation?

I've commented on one or two of these posts and reported quite a few but usually commenting just leads to abuse.

Totally agree with you!
anyone can post or say anything - people rarely question it and all jump on!
