confused about the keto diet

I've heard lots of good feedback about the keto diet, so I know it must be safe and isn't dangerous, but I don't understand it

I thought keto was a bad thing- isn't that what diabetics get and become extremely unwell with? or is the keto diet different from that? and I thought people went into ketosis if they didnt eat for too long and apparently its dangerous? or is that a different keto thing as well?!

is it just a quick fix diet or does it actually work? does the weight come straight back on when you stop the keto diet? Thank you in advance!

Dr Eric Berg on YouTube has a lot of interesting videos explaining it

Diabetics can get ketoacidosis, which is different from ketosis. Diabetic ketoacidosis is when there is no/insufficient insulin to utilise the glucose in blood from food, and the body thinks it’s starving and pumps out ketones, whilst at the same time having dangerously high blood sugar levels.

ketosis is just the body breaking down fat as energy, without the high blood glucose levels.

And i think keto is a daft diet, but then I’m vegan. I can’t see how keto is sustainable or enjoyable. Eating a Mediterranean diet is meant to be healthier/more sustainable. Moderate carb, lots of fruit and veg etc.

Leto is a dangerous diet if you have thyroid problems. Not for every single person with thyroid problems, but for certain groups.

I was barely able to walk on keto and started slurring my words. Couldn't remember a thing. It took five days of keto to get into that state. I pushed on because I'd heard of "keto flu" from friends who lost weight on keto, and thought that was it.

15-20 minutes after I nearly collapsed on the school run (shuffle - felt like I was doing my fifth consecutive marathon in lead boots) and was given a mars bar, I was 95% ok. That fast.

Some of us desperately need carbs for our brain to function. I spoke to my GP about it (as I did keto twice and same thing both times) and she said it's ok for some people, but certain thyroid problems are not compatible with it.

that's interesting re thyroid issues - i have under active thyroid and take levothyroxine - so far ok on moderate low carb diet and only thing that is vaguely working re weight loss . never fancied keto almost no carb diet though .

I tried moderately low carb and after a week, maybe 2, I honestly felt euphoric. I felt like I had more energy, drive etc. loved it. My issue was maintenance and it showed me that I have some deeper issues with food on the basis that despite feeling so good on it, I chose to throw it away to eat crap.

I assume I entered ketosis but that wasn’t my aim. I’m no expert.
