What is that sad feeling?

You know, a kind of weird empty feeling when you just feel sad for no reason? I have it now. My son gets it sometimes. There doesn't seem to be a reason. I'm not actually feeling sad about anything. It's more a physical sadness.

Do u ever experience this and know what I'm talking about? Could there b a physical reason? Like low iron or blood sugar or something?

I hate it!!

I get a feeling of dread, like something bad is going to happen type thing. No explanation and rarely comes true. I've no idea. I get emotional but that's hormonal.

AnonyMouseToday · 26/10/2022 20:42

Yeah, I get emotional too, but this isn't emotional. Almost the opposite! But mmm..maybe it's a hormone thing.

I actually have this just now. It's horrible

Egglantine · 26/10/2022 20:44

I get it in the evening or when I’m tired

Pancakestoday · 26/10/2022 20:44

I get this feeling come over me sometimes. I've had it since I was a child. It's like a sad empty feeling, it almost feels like something is missing.

For me I've actually felt as though maybe I was adopted and I'm yearning for my real family, it's so strange it comes over and then the feeling goes.

MrsDooDaa · 26/10/2022 20:45

I get it. I don't know what it is but exercise helps.

Also gotten waves of this since a child. Maybe it's part of the existential crisis we all feel here and there?

Yes, this exactly. I've never felt adopted. But everything else sounds exactly like it. Wish it had a name or an explanation .. glad I'm not alone in feeling this way sometimes (though sorry you all experience it. It's horrible. Wouldn't wish on anyone)

I get it too. I used to get an overwhelming sense of what I could only describe as deja vu when I was a child/teenager which also came with this sinking feeling.

It's horrible

I sometimes get it when I've had a really good day.

Trees6 · 26/10/2022 20:54

It’s weird. I get it. I wonder if it’s related to perimenopause.

blackberrybat · 26/10/2022 20:55

In Welsh we say hiraeth for this kind of feeling, it doesn't have a direct English translation

A blend of homesickness, nostalgia and longing, "hiraeth" is a pull on the heart that conveys a distinct feeling of missing something irretrievably lost.

Cherryblossoms85 · 26/10/2022 20:55

Yeah. A busker played here comes the sun on the tube the other day and I was already really sad about nothing and cried and cried.

ShowOfHands · 26/10/2022 20:57

It's pure melancholy isn't it? I find doing something creative really helps.

Abcdefu · 26/10/2022 20:57

I get it too. So strange,I thought I was the only one so relieved on that front at least

I'm similar in that I tend to get it at the times I definitely shouldn't.

Christmas night, every year, for example. We have the most lovely day then by 8pm boom, overwhelmed with sadness.

Same on birthdays and other special occasions.

DickeryDock · 26/10/2022 20:58

I get this sometimes I hate it! But I also get a feeling of warmth and genuine elation and happiness that comes from nowhere too so I try to think it’s worth the odd pang of sadness and despair if it means I get the direct opposite feeling sometimes too!

Onynx · 26/10/2022 20:58

@Trees6 I wonder the same. I've had it years but much much worse recently. For me it's almost paralysing

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 26/10/2022 20:58

I had it a couple of weeks ago and thought it was the change in seasons but then I started my period.

neverwakeasleepingbaby · 26/10/2022 21:00

I get it when I'm tired. I go to bed and wake up usually feeling better about life!

Just about to say this!

I’ve had this feeling on and off all my life.
Keep a check on it OP.
A lot of the time I think it is hormonal for me and is like a physical pain. It’s horrible.

Yes I feel exactly like this sometimes, I used to wonder if I had a twin that died before birth as the emptiness over something missing was so intense.
