Just that really - my neighbour in a big house converted into flats - had it with the noise from the kids above and kicked their door in shouted at them, returned to his flat to get machete - i open my door to see what's happening - he is walking up with Massive knife in hand - I was shocked - he says hi to me and continues (wtf)

I lock my door call 999 - hear the shouting upstairs - then he arrives at my door knocking apologising trying to explain himself - i obviously do not open the door

police come - he's arrested

WTF happens now - is he just going to come back and I have to live next door to this man? I have a toddler - i'm terrified now that he will come back and it's no longer safe in my building!

Police not giving me much info

What is a machete an appropriate tool for in the country? Also are you in the UK?

Cutting back bamboo and other heavy thickets. Yes I am in the UK.

I guess this depends what you call a machete too? Loads of people where I live will have a large bladed knife in their possession because landworkers still use them for cutting cauli/cabbage etc.
I don't work the land but have a 'cauli knife' for using in the garden because they are just such a common tool around here.

Disgusting comments by those saying don't get involved. Several years ago I saw one of my neighbours beat up an elderly man in the road because he didn't move his car quickly enough for his liking. I rang the Police immediately because I could see how angry he was and knew it would end badly.

He was screaming threats at the man for a good 10 minutes before he attacked him and at least 6 or 7 of my other neighbours witnessed it yet I was the only one prepared to give a statement as everyone else had suddenly been struck deaf and blind. It could have been my Dad, my brother or my son he beat up next time. This is my community and I want to be safe in it and I will be fucked if I'm going to let someone spoil it without trying to stop them.

What we have is a 'small' machete, heavy blade, about 20 inches long overall.
It's also useful for splitting wood for kindling etc.

Well he's back in the building!! we have the door locked with key in bottom lock at all times as well as the chain on and latch pushed up!

Totally on edge every time I have to leave the house in case we meet him in hall.

Police won't give us any information and their advice to the neighbours who were threatened is can they stay with someone else (family or friends for the time being??)

we've emailed all our Mp's and the council so lets see if it gets us anywhere

There is a drop in with one of our MPs in the local library on Sunday so i'll be going to that for sure

My husband unfortunately has a work trip this week so he left this morning until Saturday - super bad timing as i am so nervous there just me and my daughter!

Oh heck! You sound like you’ve done everything you can to make yourselves safe. I’m sure he won’t do anything. It’s just scary for you.. Your plan to speak to the Mp is a good one.

Hiya - just wondering how you're getting on? Are you able to take your DD out? Have been thinking of you and hoping that there have been no further issues. Take care 💐

Fupoffyagrasshole · 11/11/2022 11:54

Hi @KnittingAuntie thanks for your message!

I am in touch with the council (not really getting anywhere) but the ASB team sent me a form to fill in and said they will investigate

Also my MP has taken the crime ref number and said they will check with the police for an update

The guy is in his flat and i've never seen him again ! One neighbour met him in the hall the other day! he said it was very awkward.

I have to leave the house 3 days a week for nursery and work and obviously to go to the shops and the park etc

Basically I just open the door make sure coast is clear and we leave ! not sure what else we can do really!

I really hope we can get him moved elsewhere! He hasn't collected his post for a few days and that worries me that he's done something stupid and will be found dead in his flat - his mental health is obviously not good.

just to update this - the neighbour finally moved out yesterday!! phew

It was horrible having to live next to this man for so long!

I had a few times where i ran into him in the hall when getting my post or coming in or leaving!! he was always very sheepish with his head down!

One day i had my door open getting my toddler out with all my bags and buggy etc and he opened his door and i just slammed mine quickly and he shouted out that he was sorry - ffs! like was i supposed to say oh no worries mate all is forgiven !!

Anyway relieved i watched the movers put all his things in the van from my living room window and saw him drive away!!

now im in fear of who will be placed there next lol

I'm going to be a minority here but you shouldn't have got involved. If he is some psychopath, he's probably pissed off that you called the police and had him arrested, making yourself a target, well done.

Let's hope you're not surrounded by people like yourself if you ever need help.
