Yesterday I suddenly was covered in hives. Took an antihistamine last night. Still there , itchy and unpleasant to look at, this morning.

I'm not allergic to anything. I ate and drunk nothing I hadn't done a million times. Don't feel ill.

Does anyone have any personal experience of hives, medical websites seem to suggest that allergic reaction is the trigger, however I don't have any allergies.

So, does anyone have any idea what it might be, and if so how to.get rid?

Thanks all. It's gone mainly down now so not sure.

Although antihistamines seem to make me sleepy and grumpy

As per @lawandgin I developed urticaria out of the blue and it wasn't going away.

Dermatologist told me that unless I could easily pinpoint a cause, it wasn't an allergy and not worth doing tests. It went away after a year as mysteriously as it arrived, but even years later I'll sometimes get a few hives up.

Then the same thing happened to DH.

If anti-histamines make you drowsy keep trying different ones, and definitely don't have Piriton.

I've had an outbreak of hives a couple of days ago. No idea of the reason why though just started out of the blue. As well as antihistamine I'm using .5% hydrocortisone cream before bed to damp down the itching.
