To ask what’s the funniest hissy fit you’ve seen from an adult?

I’m currently watching my estranged cousin make an utter twat of himself on social media (he has no privacy settings) throwing a massive hissy fit that our mutual cousin has “utterly and utterly” offended him by inviting me to the day part of her wedding, but no other cousins.

He has flown off at the deep end cursing her, but conveniently not mentioning that her fiancée (who he has never met) has been one of my DH’s closest friends for 30 plus years.

He only knows because he bumped into the stag party at the weekend and realised my DH is part of the wedding party,

I just want to get popcorn while I watch other relatives (frequent flying monkeys in tbt past) pandering to him and my elder brother and their pity party.

[Cousin who is getting married doesn’t give a fuck about his whinging. Ironically it’s made us chat for the first time in a long time so totally backfired on him]

I don't think the example in the op is particularly funny, it's just family politics

minou123 · 25/10/2022 20:40

I don't have any myself. But I often end up down the YouTube black watching old episodes of Airline. I particularly enjoy when the passenger misses the flight because of thier own mistake and throw a hissy fit.

Here is 2, I think are great.

FromDespairToHere · 25/10/2022 20:41

Me, DD and DM were going to a family party about 5 miles away. DM wanted me to drive so she could have a drink. I said no because I also wanted a drink so she screamed that she wasn't going and ripped her top off, like literallyripped it.

She stood there in her bra and I said "I've booked a taxi for 30 mins, it's up to you if you come with us." She stomped upstairs and sidled down again 28 mins later in a different top, just in time to get in the taxi 😁

I have massive tantrums all the time, but only at myself, Fate and circumstance.

For example, I was once trying to meditate, but instead spent 15 minutes throwing things around the room and yelling about 'where's my fucking crystal?' because I couldn't find the one I wanted.

Very recently, I was in the middle of cutting my hedge when my hedge trimmers gave up the ghost. Totally done, however much I begged. So I went completely Basil Fawlty at 'you bastard useless fucking pieces of shit hedge cutters. Not worth the money even if you were only a PENNY' and on and on and on. Whilst hitting the hedge with them to emphasise each ranty word. Then I threw them on the floor and hit them over and over with a rake.

And I'm afraid that is not a one-off - but only when I am alone. It's like I know it's unacceptable, but if no-one is around.....

I would never tantrum at a person - raising my voice even is very unusual. But inanimate objects? Fair game.

🤣🫣

WetLettuce2 · 25/10/2022 20:51

A previous boss offered to make a rare brew - I threw him one of my fancy teabags which (impressively) he caught. However he was holding some ‘empty’ mugs at the time and realised he’d chucked cold tea all over his own boss’ desk all over their nicely printed off reports.
Massive bratty tantrum blaming me which only got worse as I couldn’t stop laughing.
Still laughing now.

WetLettuce2 · 25/10/2022 20:54

@FromDespairToHere I need to hear more about your DM - sounds a lot like mine !

Dunnoburt · 25/10/2022 20:59

Husband and wife (I presume) on the canal ..... him in charge of the narrow boat literally chasing her down as fast as it would go whilst she was briskly walking down the tow path having an absolute paddy at him not being able to moore up the new boat.....she was proper going for it....he was like a pecked hen, shouting from the boat that he was sorry, it was a lot bigger than their old boat etc......I felt so sorry for him and so embarrassed on her behalf 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

My mum is still finding little green Monopoly houses down the back of furniture and in dark corners, and I moved out 20 years ago.

This is why to this day nobody will play Monopoly with me.

I did once see a bloke near my work, with an unfortunate resemblance to Nathan Barley, barking down his phone that he wanted his money and he wanted it now! Something in his manner made me suspect he knew he had no right to be demanding it.

I have seen an undignified hissy fit on a local FB selling group, decrying some woman for being a slag for sleeping with her sister's husband; which I felt somewhat unfair as the woman may or may not have known the guy was married, but he sure as hell knew he was, so the ire really should have been sent his way most of all.

Meggie2008 · 25/10/2022 21:04

Probably me to be honest. I was going to a wedding reception when I was around 21, bought a dress etc, got dressed to go and immediately decided the dress was hideous, that I looked like a big fat git in it and it gave me man shoulders. In my rush to get it off me as I couldn't look at it for one more second, whilst in floods of tears shouting at my mum who was telling me it looked fine, I tore the zip and couldn't get out of it. Launched the hanger off the bedroom door and everything before essentially huckling mum out and slamming the door.
I sat against the door in tears for an hour and in that time, my poor mum had managed to go to the shops and buy me a new dress..

strawberrysugar23 · 25/10/2022 21:11

used to work in a gin bar - parma violet gin used to come with crushed parma violets dusted around the rim of the glass. had a middle aged woman throw a hissy fit and complain to my manager because i’d given her a gin without it on because we were out of parma violets, made me feel a bit queasy thinking she must’ve been licking the rim of the glass the whole time 🤮 don’t know about anyone else who’s worked in bars but i only order drinks that are bottled because the glass cleaning is rank in most places, can’t believe someone would even want to lick all over a glass

misspositivepants · 25/10/2022 21:13

me and my brother went to my parents for Xmas, both adults. We did the washing up, I put the plate back in the sink as it was dirty, my DB proceeded to take the plate out and smash it across his head.

Also budgie feathers.

They didn't get thrown around in a paddy, but the little buggers were such messy sods that those little light ones floated everywhere.

Haven't had budgies for 30+ years and I'm still finding them (possibly says more about my housekeeping standards than anything else 😄)

Chesure · 25/10/2022 21:17

I will add myself to this lot.

A very kind colleague offered to make me a drink. I gave my order but when he came back it was something I do drink but wasn't actually my order (I add this to make myself look even worse because it wasn't even something I wouldn't drunk!)

I went off on him completely unreasonably and out of the blue.

Turned out I was allergic to the tablets I'd been given and a side effect was uncontrollable rage! Once I was off them I was back to my normal reasonable self.

My colleague fortunately just found it funny because it really was completely disproportionate to his error. And I apologised once I calmed down and we remain friends. But I now have it on my medical records that I have an allergy to them!

BlackaddersCodpiece · 25/10/2022 21:24

A lady in my local supermarket who was standing a good few metres from the till, and between 2 tills with her shopping, so did not appear to be in any queue at all. She yelled at everyone and anyone who dared go past her to get into a queue that they needed to wait in line behind her but did not at any time move up to get into a queue herself. Very odd.

Notjustabrunette · 25/10/2022 21:25

I lived in an apartment with 2 assigned parking bays. We only had one car and the bays were quite close to concrete pillars so I would just park in the middle of both. Anyway one day after I had parked across both my bays a guy started having a hissy fit that if I couldn’t park properly I should be allowed two bays and I was really selfish for not leaving room for others. When I started mentioning things like ‘it’s in the title deeds that I have two spaces’ and what’s it got to do with him anyway’ seemed to spur him on. By the time I reached the lift doors he was practically frothing at the mouth. I think he thought I was going to get back in my car a straighten up, and couldn’t believe that his shouting at me wasn’t actually having the opposite effect as I just wanted to get the fuck away from him. Anyway later on that day I popped out and walked pasted to car park and the same guy was shouting at the security guard telling him that he needed to enforce people parking correctly. I did wonder if he was wondering around the car park that day just shouting at people.

Is it just me who feels a bit sorry for OP's cousin! I would have stifled down my hurt but because hasn't thought it through or know that op's husband is a long time friend of mutual cousin, now he thinks he's the only cousin not wanted.

He knows he’s not the only one. In fact he’s sharing his indignation with my brother. He knows I’m the only cousin invited and that I’m not invited because I’m a cousin.

Remembered one from my childhood.

My father was laying a new patio (this was pre-Brookside!!) and they had got some nice and not cheap paving. I dont know what the issue was but he had a full on proper hissy and started launching them across the carefully sanded and raked area he was supposed to be paving.

Luckily this was circa 1980 and crazy paving was a perfectly acceptable alternative to neat squares, although according to the people who bought the house from us, it was an absolute bitch to take up!

Heatherjayne1972 · 25/10/2022 21:33

Ex mil when I bought my then 3 year old girl a train set
and refused to put her in frilly Lacey unpractical dresses in favour of leggings

apparently I might turn her gay

she’s 20 and not gay ( but if she was I don’t think leggings and trains would be the cause )

It’s just a pillock making a pillock of himself, which is why it’s funny.

None of us cousins are remotely close and the bride has over 20 cousins. None are invited.

He’s just egotistical enough to think that if he’s not invited my DH shouldn’t be allowed to bring his wife of nearly 15 years simply because I’m related.

My late mother used to tell the tale of when she was a youngster, be in the 1910s she was sent to buy eggs by her father, when she returned with the bowl they were all white. He threw them at her, she dodged them and they hit the wall, he then blamed her for the broken eggs!
