To ask why my LO keeps wetting through his nappy

Sorry I wasn't sure where to post this but hoping for some advice.

My 18 month old keeps waking up wet through every night for the past two weeks.

I've tried various nappy brands from Lidl, Tesco, Aldi and Pampers. I've tried cloth nappies with two liners. Tried various size nappies too.

Dinner is at 530pm then bottle before bed at 630pm so I've tried to restrict the amount of fluid but he still has a bit as needs to with dinner. He has maybe 150ml in total.

Sadly can't bring dinner time forward due to work.

I was thinking of even trying to put two nappies on him but DH said this would be dangerous as could be tight around his legs.

He's waking earlier in the morning because of this wetness. Last night we had to change him completely at 2:30am as he woke up wet.

I was thinking of trying a maternity pad liner inside his nappy tonight. I don't know what else to try.

One nappy on normally and a second one back to front did the job when I bought the wrong ones...could it be he needs to go up a size?

SnarkyBag · 25/10/2022 09:42

DS use to be like this every night. We did one nappy and a pull over the top. Not tight on his legs at all.

I know you said you've tried cloth, but which ones? An old fashioned terry cloth and decent wrap is unbeatable (although bulky).

Ageneralsenseofproundconcern · 25/10/2022 09:46

Pick him up and get him to do a wee over the loo before you go to bed. He won’t wake up properly but it’ll empty his bladder. Nappies tend to leak when the quantity of pee is too much for the absorbency so decreasing the amount of pee helps. You can do this for years - helps them sleep longer in the morning.

Apileofballyhoo · 25/10/2022 09:49

Has anything changed in the past two weeks? Os he constipated, drinking anything different, anything like that?

Could you change his nappy before you go to sleep or is he still dry at that time?

And as pp said have you gone up a size?

DogDaysNeverEnd · 25/10/2022 09:51

Check the size of the clothes over the nappy, if they are too tight the wee can soak through and a bigger bulkier nappy would just make it worse.

This has just started happening to my 9 month old too! I've realised it's always only leaking on one side, and that's because he 'points' naturally to one side, so that side gets all the wee, and it leaks. Do you think it could be a similar reason? Currently using Aldi's Mamia. Didn't have a problem with Pampers so going to go back to them for nights!

Have you tried pull ups, even if you don't need the pull up function yet, it stopped my LO leaking overnight. Fred and flo do + version pullups which holds more too.

FlounderingFruitcake · 25/10/2022 09:58

Ditch the bedtime bottle? If it’s a feed to sleep habit then it shouldn’t be really because of teeth brushing. If the bottle is before teeth then it shouldn’t be that difficult to get rid. Give a yoghurt, banana or something like that after dinner if you’re worried about him waking hungry.

Thanks for the replies. Last night I put a maternity pan inside the nappy and we had no leaking!

I've tried everything you've suggested. The cloth nappies are popper ones. I always worry I've put them on too tight but think it's ok according to the guidance.

Go up a size.

Make sure he’s only drinking water or milk - not juice.
