To take my 1YO and 5YO to a job interview?

DH will be at work, and it's an interview for a weekend cleaning job where my DH will be able to mind the children. But the interview is in the school holidays (tomorrow).

Don't be stupid. You need to arrange childcare or reschedule the interview.

AnneLovesGilbert · 24/10/2022 18:10

Of course you don’t take your kids.

Googlecanthelpme · 24/10/2022 18:10

Totally depends, an informal chat it might be ok. A more formal interview situation it’s probably not appropriate.

Can you ring in the morning and explain that you’re without childcare, you’re still happy to come in and have a quick chat or you can come in at the weekend ?

ForensicFlossy · 24/10/2022 18:10

No please don't. Call them and explan the situation and there may be a better solution. Do not turn up with your kids.

tenbob · 24/10/2022 18:10

Where is the interview? Someone’s home or an office?

what will they do during the interview? Sit with you?

Is there no one at all who can watch them for you? I can’t see how it would in any way help you get the job, unless this is a family you already know

Soubriquet · 24/10/2022 18:11

No employer would be happy with that arrangement

Rauha · 24/10/2022 18:12

No, that's not a good idea

Gymnopedie · 24/10/2022 18:12

The problem isn't that you'll be expecting the DCs to go to work with you (although someone may suspect that however much you protest otherwise), it's that they will interfere with the interview because you can't just ignore them. Other childcare or ask to schedule the interview for a time when DH can have them.

AintNoThang · 24/10/2022 18:12

No of course you can't take your children.

1smallhamsterfoot · 24/10/2022 18:13

Surely anyone with a brain knows the answer to this?

DNAwrangler · 24/10/2022 18:13

No. Don’t take them.

if no friends, acquaintances, etc who can help out, could you use a babysitting service?

at the very least ring and explain and see if they can reschedule.

Puyo · 24/10/2022 18:13

That's an awful idea unless you really don't want the job. Ask to rearrange and get dh to take leave or a phone interview and explain the situation. An interview with kids in tow will be a shit show.

Spudina · 24/10/2022 18:13

Big nope. It would create a terrible impression. Sorry.....

wast542 · 24/10/2022 18:13

Wow. Don't be so bloody ridiculous

Rotherweird · 24/10/2022 18:14

Personally if it’s just going to someone’s house I think it’s fine.

Slimjimtobe · 24/10/2022 18:14

Is this a real question ? Surely not

PortalooSunset · 24/10/2022 18:15

What are you planning on doing with them while you're there? Actually in the room with you while you're talking? Or expecting someone to look after them?
I do think YWBU to take them though, yes.

CheezePleeze · 24/10/2022 18:15

Just no.

That'd be really silly.

GoodVibesHere · 24/10/2022 18:15

Yes take them, if you don't want the job

AffIt · 24/10/2022 18:15

Rotherweird · 24/10/2022 18:14

No, it's not.

I don't have children, my house isn't childproof and, if I'm interviewing somebody for a paid role, I want to speak to them without distraction.

Changechangychange · 24/10/2022 18:16

You can take them but I wouldn’t expect to get the job if you do. Because the employer will assume that if you bring your kids to an interview you’ll be bringing them round their house when you are doing their cleaning, and they’ll be getting up to god knows what and distracting you from cleaning (and yes this does happen, and no not much actual cleaning gets done).

PinkButtercups · 24/10/2022 18:18

No.

DDivaStar · 24/10/2022 18:18

It would be very disruptive to the interview and shows them you have no back up childcare, not a great first impression.

StrataZon · 24/10/2022 18:18

Just reschedule the interview!

Crunchymum · 24/10/2022 18:18

How long have you known about the interview?
