Settle an argument- Disney Parade

Third world problem and very light hearted, but I was just interested and wondered what others think.

I work with a lady (let’s call her J) who travels to WDW alone. She’s 45 and a big kid when it comes to Disney.

She was at the Mickeys Halloween Party and was waiting for a parade to start. J said that she found a great location to watch the parade from. She was about 60 mins early and sat on the kerb to stake out her spot.

About 15 mins before the parade began a family with three children stood behind her. The children proceeded to try to stand in front of J which annoyed her, but the Disney worker moved them back off the road. Then the children now behind J started to bop her on the head with a ballon and drip water or soda from a cup onto her head.

At this point J was really getting cross and stood up to watch the parade, and loud complaints of not being able to see ensued from the children and parents.

After the parade was over, one of the parents told J that she was spiteful not letting the children got in front of her. To which J responded by calling them entitled.

J was telling us about this incident and it caused quite the debate at work.

So is J being unreasonable or not?

Unless an adult has additional needs or another disability then children should always go in front.

Exactly. That way everyone can see.

She was seated though. Letting a child stand in front would have blocked her view she’s only 5ft 2. Usually those at front sit and rows behind stand. J only stood to stop them hitting her head/pouring drink on her.

Well the child could have sat in front then? Same principle..I can't remember anyone sitting when the parades started, just while they were waiting but I might be wrong.

Your friend is not unreasonable. This reminds me when I once took my young children to Thomas Land and at the end they have a Christmas show.

Got there early, my kids were at the front. My husband and I are tall so stood back a bit to let other kids in front of us. However some older kids kept trying to push my kids, elbowing them etc. I squeezed past someone (an adult) twice to check on my kids. I ended up on the receiving end of a mouthful from this adult who was swearing at me for pushing past him.

Could not win, I'm sure if I stayed at the front this man would have had a go at me as well!

There’s no room though for a child to sit in front. Unless a small child you don’t know sits on your lap. J would have been sitting up to kerb - road has to be clear for performers safety - no dangling feet (the floats and dancers are in road when parade is on) There’s a crowd behind you can’t scoot back. It’s crowded. People sit and wait a long time for a kerb spot.

Yes Disneyworld parades especially Halloween and Christmas front row sit and behind stand so more can see. It’s the main draw of the evening very busy and popular.

i think what is key here is that most people who have been to Disney and know how MNSHP works say she isnt being unreasonable!

Adults who go to Disney world with no kids are just plain strange

No. But people with such strong opinions on what others enjoy are very strange indeed.

lifeturnsonadime · 26/10/2022 10:07

J definitely not being unreasonable.
I'd hazard a guess that any person who thinks an adult alone at Disney is strange has never been. It would be bliss to go without children.

I was on a Disney Cruise in the summer and a woman who I think was in her 60s shoved my autistic teen out of the way to get the best view for a show. I couldn't give her a piece of my mind sadly as my daughter can't handle conflict.

Some people are just entitled.

Why? Have you been. There’s lots that’s aimed at just adult’s. Toddlers aren’t the target market to drink lots of alcohol and watch 80s bands! Epcot food and wine draws huge adult crowds with food and alcohol and live bands eg Billy Ocean, Tiffany - Hanson are on this weekend. It’s similar to a food festival or Christmas market but on a larger scale.
Lots of nice restaurants, shopping, golf, themed bars. California Grill brunch was amazing - cocktails, fabulous view. It’s not all chicken nuggets and burgers.
Lots of adults enjoy comic con type things, Star Wars isn’t my thing but Rides, theming, bars and restaurants were very immersive.
