bronchiolitis, vomiting and diarrhoea linked??

Sorry positing for traffic.
I will be called the GP tomorrow as soon as they open.

My 13 month old was admitted to hospital last week with bronchiolitis, laboured breathing and not eating/drinking. They tube fed him and we went home after 3 night.

He is still not eating or drinking much. He'll drink from his water bottle but anything else is a struggle.

Today he's had about 5oz of milk, a tiny tiny centimetre of toast and 3/4 spoonfuls of yoghurt. The last 5 days he has thrown up at least once a day, the last 3 days he has had diarrhoea/really soft poops.

He is not himself, really tired and just lacks energy, not playing much.

He used to eat so well and was such a happy baby. Is this 2 bugs back to back? Or is it just a long bout of bronchiolitis?? Or something else?

I’m surprised they let you home after 3 days especially as baby was tube fed. My baby was in hospital last year (4 months old) with bronchiolitis. Thankfully she was not tube fed but we did stay in hospital for 6 nights, to be fair I preferred this because it meant we were supported really well there medically and baby had enough time to recover so that we felt comfortable continuing with her care at home.

It must be frightening for you, the hospital offered us a post hospital stay service where we got a phone call / visit 3 days after being released. I think this depends on the trust.

Can you call your gp or 111 for advice? Is your baby product wet nappies?

It might be a bit long since discharge now, but did you have an access number to call for the ward should he worsen?

With bronchiolitis the cough often lasts a few weeks, d&v usually settled with in the week.

I'm sure you're encouraging fluids much as possible. If you don't think you're getting much in plus loosing extra fluid with the d&v do you think being seen in hospital might be better than gp? Or do you feel seems better than prior to prev admission?

It may be linked, my kids had tonnes of episodes of bronchitis and also pneumonia several times and they often got an upset stomach from swallowing mucus.
But it doesn’t really matter why he has these symptoms as if he isn’t well in himself he might need to be seen. You could call 111and see what they think.
