Covid vaccine

Ilovenotebooks · 23/10/2022 14:44

I had the Covid vaccine a few days ago and don't know whether I'm being unreasonable. I know the staff are working really hard but:

  • The stewards were both rude and one snapped at me when I stood in the wrong place (it wasn't obvious where to stand). The other snapped at people behind me to not block the path (they weren't).

  • The vaccinator (nurse?) didn't ask me anything other than my name and which arm I wanted it done in. She didn't ask if I well etc. She didn't explain any side effects and I didn't get any leaflet or anything to explain them. I drove home thinking if I reacted there would be no evidence I'd even had the jab (it didn't come up on app until 2 days later). It just felt rather unprofessional. I was in their 30 seconds. Literally 30 seconds. A pile of ready drawn up needles lay on the desk ready for the next lot of people.

  • FWIW I'm probably just grumpy about it as I felt awful for 2 days after it.

It just felt less 'professional' than previous rounds of jabs when you had to hand paperwork etc over and got things explained to you.

The stewards are all volunteers giving up their time for nothing. The vaccinators are also probably volunteers- St John ambulance etc. There should be a list of questions to look at yourself - do you have any covid, symptoms, are you pregnant. Are you taking blood thinners etc although the vaccinators where I volunteer do check that you have read them. Many of the people I have shown the list of questions to (they're on a big board) say 'Yes, yes this is my 4th/ 5th/ 6th jab. I know I'm ok'.

The steward should be polite and I always make an effort but maybe she had had someone being rude to her just before you met her and was upset herself. I doubt she actually told you off.

I didn't say she told me off. I said she snapped at me which she did. You're right, they probably are volunteers but I've done tons of volunteering over the years and haven't ever snapped at anybody.

There was no list of things to check.

This must be your fourth (at least) Covid vax. Surely you know what side effects you need to look out for by now.

luxxlisbon · 23/10/2022 15:01

What information do you actually want them to tell you? Leaflets are available if you want them, you can look it up online, you’ve already had multiple versions of the jab already and chose to get another booster.
Of course they had all the needles lined up and ready to go, it’s a one in one out process repeated quickly and efficiently over the day.

It was a different brand to the ones I'd had previously. I didn't have any effects to the others.

I guess I'm just comparing it to the flu jab I had a couple of weeks ago where everything was explained and I got paperwork afterwards.

She didn't explain any side effects and I didn't get any leaflet or anything to explain them

Surely you know what side effects to look out for by now? I had similar with my last one last weekend. Fever and chills and generally feeling shit for 24 hours. It wasn't a surprise.

As for being 'snapped' at; sounds like they were just trying to get as many people through as quickly as possible.

GreenFingersWouldBeHandy · 23/10/2022 15:05

I didn't get any 'paperwork' with my flu jab either. Nor did I expect any.

bellac11 · 23/10/2022 15:06

Not unreasonable at all. Ive only had 2, the first one you were on your own in a cubicle with the nurse who spoke about the effects, I had to sign a form about side effects and consent

The second one was like a sheep dip or something, massive room of people sitting and i thought the rows of chairs was a queue where you move along the chair queue into a room at the front of the room, but no, the nurses were wheeling the trolly of vaccines to person to person and asking them personal questions about name, dob, any ongoing or chronic illnesses and any medication you had in full earshot of other people. When I protested about this I was taken into a room and had my injection there but if you're not as confident to say that this is not acceptable, no doubt you'll just accept this sort of thing.

Ilovenotebooks · 23/10/2022 15:06

Guess it's just me. Thank you for the perspective.

oh come on, go help yourself. Google, research for yourself. Imagine spending 5 mins with each person explaining repeatedly the same information and then their list of questions. I think from the very first jab we were just asked our name and which arm.

Lannielou · 23/10/2022 15:07

I work in our local vaccination centre. Normally the health questions are given to you to check. As a nurse I ask the questions again, but the jab itself takes less than 30 seconds. We then give a vaccination card and information leaflet plus verbal advice on side effects. Our volunteers deal with people really well.

ComtesseDeSpair · 23/10/2022 15:08

On the basis that it’s not your first time at the rodeo, I’d imagine they now assume participants are aware of likely side effects and also that they shouldn’t attend for vaccination if they are already symptomatic. Yes, they should have been polite, but working with the public in a voluntary capacity is trying. You’ve now had your vaccination and can feel happy you don’t have to go and do it again for a while.

If you’re triple vaxxed already what is the point of having yet another dose?

Still, if the vax doesn’t prevent becoming infected and doesn’t prevent you spreading the infection to others, what is the point altogether?

I’m stepping up my dosage of VitC, VitD and zinc. Vitamin D is the most important here, it’s not just a nutrient but a hormone. The gov’t recommended dosage of 800iu a day is far too low. That might stave off rickets but won’t do anything else useful

Because my immune system is compromised, not that I should have to explain that.

In which case you should consider stepping up your Vitamin D intake

Because the vaccine only protects you for a few months... d'oh...

I already take a high dosage of vit D and have done for many years. Thanks.

I can’t believe you’re complaining that they had the doses prepped and ready to go and it only took 30 seconds. You’d like them to be wildly inefficient, would you?

JustOrderADoor · 23/10/2022 15:17

@Ilovenotebooks
im sorry you had a pretty rubbish experience.

I had both covid & flu jabs 3 weeks ago.

the outside/info taking people outside were in hood spurts, very nice.

Yhe two in the room were really nice, friendly, chatty, felt like I could have stayed all morning!

Delighted me by telling me it was Pfizer, not Moderna (I hadn't wanted Moderna really)

adked which arm I wanted each jab, asked the usual questions & gave me a leaflet and even filled my card in on request.

Couldn't have been any better really. The best if they 4, but then they may also be because I was at my most relaxed about it.

peopld saying 'it doesn't work' are full
of horse shit. I'm happy to have it each year with my flu jab!

I Felt a bit rubbish for a few days, but it's well worth it for the added protection IMO

Some vaccines don't last forever. The flu one is annual for example.

The flue vaccine is different each year due to evolution of the virus, not declining protection

JustOrderADoor · 23/10/2022 15:20

I think they had them pre prepared, but frankly I don't care either way & it makes sense.

lol I'm definitely more chilled than I was the first time🤣 first time I could have told you every single detail of the colour/volume/etc etc
