It looks like a Wicklow finger. They can go away on their own. My daughter had this. Urgent care isn't needed

It looks infected so will probably need antibiotics.

Madamecastafiore · 22/10/2022 09:59

Go and get sone hydrogen peroxide, dilute as per instructions and hold his finger in it. The bacteria will oxidise and die and you'll see it fuzzing. It won't hurt him at all. Do it every couple of hours and the infection should clear. If it keeps filling and redness spreading though he may need oral antibiotics though.

FannyFifer · 22/10/2022 15:43

Go to pharmacist they are great for this stuff & can also prescribe certain antibiotics.

Do not do this. Did he see a nurse or doctor and get it sorted, it looks very sore.

@HappyHamsters yes we did he has antibiotics and they sorted his finger :)

My son had this I put on this paste stuff which draws stuff out and it was fine.

Prescottdanni123 · 22/10/2022 16:45

Walk-in centre/minor injuries.

Madamecastafiore · 22/10/2022 16:51

HappyHamsters it's actually what the pharmacist told us to do when my son has an infected finger like this.

HappyHamsters · 22/10/2022 18:54

What if its viral.

georgarina · 22/10/2022 19:22

I wouldn't bother with 111, just take him to A&E.
111 almost killed me by refusing to refer me to an emergency dentist even though I ticked all the boxes for infection. Almost died before I was blue lighted to hospital.
Just take him.

It absolutely will hurt!

Please don't do this, my parents used to use hydrogen peroxide when we got cuts and it was bloody agony.

Lilimic79 · 22/10/2022 19:30

paronychia!

Don't press or try drain it. Too blooming painful. Will need antibiotics for it.
We went through same at beginning of pandemic and went to OOH clinic at the childrens hospital.

Madamecastafiore · 22/10/2022 19:43

lookingformyleopard I often use it as a mouthwash, for infections and as I mentioned for an infected finger my son had and for an ingrowing toenail which was infected and I have to say it really was completely pain free!

EilonwyWithRedGoldHair · 22/10/2022 19:56

Just as a general observation and not in response to the OP, but seeing a pharmacist and being told by them that I needed to see a GP, then telling the GP receptionist that got me the quickest appointment I've had for years! It was on the phone, but it was within two hours.

Mouscadoo · 22/10/2022 20:29

My daughter had something similar, she was my first and very young so brought her to gp. They gave a fungal cream and that cleared it up straight away.
