Emetophobic mum of two and think my youngest has a bug 😓. She woke up about an hour ago crying and almost screaming then my husband said she retched but wasn't sick. Now she seems asleep on the sofa with him although restlessly. I'm upstairs on high alert waiting to hear the dreaded sound. She ate dinner fine and everything. Help, I'm panicking here!!

If she was screaming it sounds like she wretched from that. If she was that worked up. Does your DP work tomorrow, if she does have a bug will you cope on your own? What are your normal coping tactics?

I feel for you OP but the inevitable will come one day. Kids get bugs. Have you had any help for your phobia?

Hope your dc is okay.

It is so scary when our DC are sick..especially in the middle of the night! It sounds as if you have a wonderful supportive DH so that you can tag team in caring for your DD. When she vomits look at it as it's her body getting rid of what is making her sick.
You all are going to get through this. Flowers

Fellow emetophobe here,

In your shoes, I would have a quick chat with your DH, I assume he knows this about you and ask him if he can manage alone.

If he says no, can you assign yourself some of the safer jobs, I manage better being busy, I would bring down some towels for the sofa and floor, bucket or bowl, some water and a change of clothes for them both.

I would put myself in charge of a damp flannel for her head if she has a fever, gives you an excuse to keep leaving the room, and if it gets too much walk up and down the street or round the garden to calm down.

I feel for you so much, it's my greatest fear, it's does improve when they get older.

Well she's been sick throughout the night but not projectile thank god, always in a bucket and not a lot. My husband has been with her all night and I'm so glad he's here! Now here's the waiting to see who else gets it fun time! Just so weird as she ate and was absolutely fine after school and evening. Usually there's at least a few signs this is imminent so I can prepare myself 😷😫

Well done on making it though the night, that's the worst part and she's probably over the vomiting part.

You can always pull out the covid masks if you're anxious about catching it, open the windows etc.

And it might just be something she ate at home or school, so may not even be a bug.
