To do nothing during the fourth trimester?

Is it ok to just spend as much of the fourth trimester as you can on the sofa/in bed cuddling the baby, rather than doing anything to stimulate them?

I have older DC who are around 4 days a week so we do get out and about then. But should I be doing more talking/singing/waving things at the baby when it's just the two of us or is cuddling enough for now?

I honestly can't remember what I did with older DC but I think I made more of an effort to give them things to look at/do.

This time I'm relishing the opportunity to chill out but don't want to be neglectful.

AIBU to mainly be cuddling them while reading books/scrolling online?

If the baby is feeding or sleeping then that sounds perfect. I used to chat to mine, sing to them, prop them up on my knees and tickle etc when they were awake but before 3 months they are mostly sleeping or eating.
Taking care of yourself is very important during this time when you're still recovering from what your body has gone through.

It is absolutely perfectly what you should be doing. Rest whenever you can and just get loads of bonding time in, these early weeks will be gone before you know it.

Yes lots of cuddles. Playmat with shiny interesting things on one of those frames if you need to get things done about the house. Chat to them. Out for some fresh air and a pram walk a few times a week at least. Don't force anything, just go at your own pace.

But mostly cuddle and chill. Rest and recuperate. Enjoy it 😊

He’ll yes! With my first I was at adventure babies by week 5. This time I enjoyed watching tv and lazing with baby and biscuits between nursery drop off and pick up. Definitely just enjoy the time , they won’t want to be sitting about once they are on the move xx
