Can’t we just make a new party?

Aibu to think we should just scrap all politicians and start again?

The tories: I don’t even know where to start. They won’t get my vote ever again.

labour: just seen one of them has been accused of sexual misconduct. They have dodgy values towards women. I’m not sold on Keir either.

the others: no idea. They don’t have a chance.

What is the process of setting up a new party? I want normal, ethical people from all backgrounds. Women, young, old etc. from all walks of life. I want my health secretary to have worked in the NHS, I want my chancellor to have a brilliant financial mind, i want my defence secretary to have served in armed forces etc. The best most brilliant minds in their specific area.

I do not want any of them to be power hungry middle aged Eton educated twits that think they can start up affairs with junior colleagues.

How hard is it to make a new political party?

That would be fantastic. X

The social democrats split from Labour but ended up joining the liberals to form the libdems. That was big at the time because the social democrats were started by senior politicians/ex ministers.

Yeah, that would work 😂. Lots of local representatives fighting like cats in a sack and no overall discipline to decide which departments and areas get the cash and are allowed to carry through their ideas. It would make the current shower look quite self-controlled!

The current lot have discipline? 😂

Surely you could just have MPs draft bills and vote on them just as you do now. But instead of being stuck with the party whip you'd get groups forming about specific issues meaning they could be far more flexible and fluid depending on the issue.

I think First Past the Post system would scupper the chance of a new party getting anywhere near power.

New parties are formed all the time. Usually with little success.

The only one in recent years to make inroads were the UK Independence/ Referendum Party.

MPs don’t draft bills, civil servants do. How does this group of independent MPs decide on who is Prime Minister, who should be in the cabinet, who represents what department? Do they roll dice? Do a first past the post vote on each other? Draw straws? Or all randomly decide to draft any old bill they fancy, hope none of the other MPs are coming up with similar ideas, grab any old researcher or civil servant they can to help them, and hope they’ve got all bases covered? What if nobody wants to take responsibility for a particular issue? Who tells them they have to do it?
