To be really fucked off at crib regulations

I'm in the US - I'm not sure if the same issue exists in the UK.

But it is currently illegal to sell/make a crib with a drop down side. I'm barely 5 feet tall and have a small crib, and yet today I am in tears because I'm so fed up with barely being able to reach my baby, my back is killing me from all of the excessive and unsafe bending and the baby wakes up often when putting her down because I have to lift her instead of the gentle way I could lay her in the bassinet or pack and play.

Who tf designed this? Was it men or really tall women? How about designing a crib which is SAFE and well made rather than just banning another thing with no regards to the consequences for women and mothers.

So. Fed. Up.

Also my husband is snoring and the baby is finally asleep but I can't sleep and I want to kill him too.

OP, I’m with you in this one! When my Dc were little, I had drop sided cots. Now my grandchildren are here and no drop sided cot!
as tiny babies it was fine because the base was higher so didn’t have to bend over much. But as soon as the base was dropped my back started to hurt. I find that putting them down isn’t too bad if they’re in their sleeping bags because I hold the bags and lay them in. Picking them up is harder!

Another one who didn't use a cot!
Use a bed/floor bed.

Can you just get a toddler bed and put a bed rail on the side of it, and push the other side against a wall. My friend does this with her 14 month old works great.

alternatively could you sack the cot off and have her sleep in a travel cot / pack n play? The bugaboo one would be good, if abit pricey ?

Moses basket?

If it's any consolation we couldn't use the drop side with DS2 as the noise of it clicking into place would make him ping awake and start screaming all over again...

I feel your pain as I'm 5ft. Our cot had 2 heights but as soon as my kids were big enough to need the lower height I basically had to drop them in feet first in a sleeping bag as it was such a struggle to reach. If they were asleep I used to have to essentially drop them in as best I could, almost always woke them if they'd been asleep. Nightmare! I found a stool didn't really help due to balance etc.

Litigation. That's who to blame.

This is why I never used a cot - tried it for a couple of nights and quickly realised it was a right pain! We co-slept and then transitioned to a floor bed.

Totally wishing I'd heard of a floor bed about 2 years ago lol! Too late now!
