Opening her eyes wide and blinking a lot

My 4 year old started sort of stretching/opening her eyes wide a while ago every so often. I’ve noticed she now has started blinking lots, usually when watching tv etc, like a tic. Can anyone help and tell me what’s causing this? She also sometimes shouts out for no reason and when I ask her why she did it, she says she doesn’t know. Her meltdowns are increasing recently and she seems more angry/upset. Feeling scared now a little as I’m not sure what’s going on, is this a normal phase or should I take her to see someone?

Oh and my other DN my other sisters son does a weird noise with his throat and again it's like little tics. Although it's annoying to hear (which sounds really horrible because 100% it's worse for them) you just have to learn not to say anything when it's ruled out as tics.

Hi OP, your daughter reminds me of a friend's kid. He developed tics quite young and had a fair few for several years. It was classed as tourette's.

But by now he's 13, happy and healthy and the tics are almost completely gone and practically unnoticeable. So even if it turns out to be tourette's, it's not the end of the world.

Op, just to say to you the head of our very successful company has very obvious facial tics, as he’s speaking. Great person, well loved and respected by all and very successful.

Hi OP. Sorry to hear this. My eldest child (now 21) went through a similar phase of excessive blinding at the same age. I was told this could be related to Tourette's. Interestingly enough, she was identified as having autism much later on.
Hope you get to the bottom of it. Kids are such a bloody worry!

If it were me I'd try an eye test. Maybe not being able to see very well is stressing her out.

Whodoigoto · 20/10/2022 23:52

@mycatisannoying Did you not see any other signs of autism? What age would it present itself?

Hi,
I know this hasn’t been posted on since October, but I’m wondering what the outcome of this was? My 4 year old son is doing similar, especially opening his eyes wide while watching TV.
