Do you switch off your lights when you leave the room?

Sorry if this has been done before but I havent seen it. Our house is quite open plan and so if the lights are left off it looks really dark and cold. So I put lights on in rooms we arent in. But, I am aware there is an energy crisis which made me wonder what other people do!

If I am in the house alone at night, then I will leave the kitchen light on whilst I am in the lounge. My lounge is in the centre of the house with the hallway at the front. I leave the kitchen light on for security reasons, so it looks from outside that there is someone home. If I am not on my own, then I will only have a light on in the room anyone is in. I turn them all off when I go to bed.

Yes lights on until we go to bed . Bathroom light on overnight because we hate the house in darkness and both have rubbish eyesight.

Yes, always. And everything not actually in use is switched off at the wall. The fridge-freezer is the biggest drain as it’s always on, but when this 30+ year old old one fails its replacement will be much more efficient. Not much else has to stay on - router, Echo, boiler controller. Even the oven and hob are off at the wall, and the tv and Sky box unless it’s set to record something.

Yes, always - unless I’m tidying up in which case lights stay on as I move between rooms.

Also, when I’m alone at night downstairs.

We have under cabinet lighting in the kitchen which is on all the time, and a lamp in the lounge and hall.

Our dog is scared of the dark so the lamps are left on for her, along with the radio. But even without her I would keep low lamps on in the main areas.

I do. But, my dad had some energy guy round to his house who told him, certain lights, it costs more to switch on and off than just leave on.- kitchen lights were his biggest energy sucker! Also, the string for the electric shower; I always turn mine off, but he said you're better leaving it on.

On all evening until bed: lamp in bedroom and lounge, dim back lit mirror in bathroom and light in cooker hood.

Turned off when not needed: main overhead light in bedroom and lounge (only use that one for hoovering so I can see better), kitchen spot lights, landing and hall lights (both overhead).

They're all LED and I'm not fannying about risking bashing into things turning lamps on and off every time I move from room to room.

DS has desk light and lava lamp.
