To ask what’s in your lunchbox?

I need to start taking packed lunches to work. No heating facilities. Don’t really want sandwiches and crisps.

This is a budgeting decision but I really don’t want to be stuck with the same boring salad every day.

So AIBU to ask what’s in your lunchbox?

Left over proper blokes pasta! 😋

Funkyslippers · 19/10/2022 19:12

I absolutely love Aldi's metro rolls, so tend to fill one with corned beef, homemade coleslaw and salad

Funkyslippers · 19/10/2022 19:12

I also love roast veg, falafel and hummus

Teddyhasgonetobed · 19/10/2022 19:14

Lots of options depending on if you have a kettle/fridge etc

Looking at this from a cost & easy prep point of view, things I have done in the past some are clearly healthier than others.

Crackers/crispbreads
Quiche
Pasta salad
Cup of soups/pot noodle
Cous cous
Wraps
Cereal/Overnight oats
Fruit
Veggie sticks and dips/hummus
Yogurt and granola/fruit.

OhNoOhDearOh · 19/10/2022 19:14

Will they not let you have heating facilities there? That would really annoy me.

tuna pasta
flask of soup
various fancy sandwiches
fruit, yoghurt, boiled eggs rather than crisps
pitta and crudities with houmous

TheSausageKingofChicago · 19/10/2022 19:16

No kettle or fridge unfortunately. I work out and about so it’s literally what I can carry in my bag.

Usually I grab something from a shop or cafe, but that’s expensive and I’m trying to cut costs.

Hard boiled eggs and pitta bread. Just peel the egg and squish into the pitta. Voila! Instant no fuss lunch all done at my desk

Oh god you don’t do you? Are you in an office with others`?

Cornishmum2be · 19/10/2022 19:19

get a good food flask, then leftovers or make big batch of soups or lentils to freeze and reheat to put in the flask in the mornings, I work outside and its always still near boiling hot by lunch.

TheChosenTwo · 19/10/2022 19:19

I tend to do either a roasted veg couscous, a tabbouleh with halloumi/mint/pomegrante and stuff/soup/Greek salad/tuna pasta or leftovers. But I’m only in the office a couple of days a week so I need to only make one thing and it lasts me 2 days. If I was eating it 5 days a week I’d make something to last 2 days and something else to last 3. And more than likely end up going out for lunch at least 1 day despite my good intentions 😂

NCAutumn · 19/10/2022 19:20

Get a thermos or sho food flask.

Tomorrow I'm having casserole and crusty bread but I like noodles or soup and a sandwich. Leftovers of pasta etc are also good.

Cold pizza is nice or a chicken tikka wrap with lots of lettuce and Mayo

stayathomer · 19/10/2022 19:20

Crackers, popcorn, grapes an apple and banana because am trying not to do sandwiches but I’m generally hungry after. I’ve also done soup and a roll (sorry!!)

You could use a food flask, keeps food lovely and hot.

katscamel · 19/10/2022 19:21

Leftovers from the night before, couscous with whatever I've got...., filled rolls, cheese n crackers, hummus and veg/crispbeads

Thegreenballoon · 19/10/2022 19:21

Crackers, cheese and grapes
Cold pasta salad with veggies
Hummus and breadsticks and veggies to dip
Cold sliced pizza
Sausage roll

MrsTuxedo · 19/10/2022 19:22

Roasted vegetables are nice at room temperature.
Soup in a flask
Quinoa is really nice when cooked in broth (or add half a cube to cooking water)
Asparagus again nice at room temperature with some tofu, the pre-marinated ones from supermarket, will taste nice and fine even if hours out of fridge

HPandTheNeverEndingBedtime · 19/10/2022 19:22

A food flask and then just microwave some soup in the morning, or quickly do a vegetable stir fry etc. Keeps it hot until lunch as the weather gets colder having something warm makes a big difference.

If you are particularly prepared make a soup at the weekend and reheat that in the morning, homemade leek and potato soup is much cheaper than Heinz at the minute.

Fuckitydoodah · 19/10/2022 19:24

These are things I've taken to work:

Cut up carrots, pepper, cucumber and tomatoes with a tub of houmous and some pitta bread.

Cheese, crackers and chutney.

Pasta

cocktail sausages

Veg samosa

Onion bhaji

Wraps

Rice cakes and cream cheese

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 19/10/2022 19:26

Cheese and crackers. Pickles or chutney. Fruit.

I'm a creature of habit to make my life easier.

prescribingmum · 19/10/2022 19:27

Food flask is your best friend in winter. Can take most hot dishes, I tend to deviate towards soups, pasta and noodles.

Salads and wraps are my usual options in summer, always have tofu or cheese in to fill me up (I’m veggie)

Agree with PP - this is seriously antisocial in a shared space.

Please talk to me about tofu, I'm eating more veggie dishes, but honestly I don't know what's best to do with tofu?

Could you give me some ideas?

Nooo, hope you’re not in a workplace with others..

DailyMailHater · 19/10/2022 19:31

I have a food flask, you heat it in the morning with boiling water, heat your food up at home, add it to the heated flask and seal and it keeps the food warm for 12hrs….I take pasta, chilli, soup, curry - basically a portion of whatever we have had for tea the night before.

it didn’t cost much from argos and I use it all the time

thelobsterquadrille · 19/10/2022 19:32

I eat "on the go" to - normally in my car! I rely on the following:

Pasta salads
Leftovers that can be eaten cold.
Sandwiches (I know you're reluctant but they're quick, easy and can be made with a variety of breads/fillings).
Rice cakes/ryvita with a variety of toppings
Fruit and/or a cereal bar
