If you don’t go to a wedding (were invited, but tou don’t want to go) do you still have to get them a present?

Few coming up soon, friend and a cousin.
Do I have to buy them something?

Yes. I would.

This is JUST MY OPINION. but yeah I would still give them something, if I was invited and couldn't go/didn't want to go. Maybe £30-40 worth or so.

ComtesseDeSpair · 19/10/2022 12:59

Surely being expected / feeling the need to send a gift even if you don’t attend just opens the door for cheeky fuckers the UK over to send invitations to a load of people they know full well won’t be able to travel / find childcare / get time off work to attend just to boost the present pile??

Ponderingwindow · 19/10/2022 13:13

No obligation to send a gift.
However, every wedding I have declined I have wanted to help the couple celebrate, so sent a card and likely small to normal gift depending on circumstances. No one that I simply didn’t care about at all has ever invited me to a wedding.

Whistlesandbell · 19/10/2022 13:14

I probably would, are you married, did they buy you anythin?

OhIdoLike2bBesideTheSeaside · 19/10/2022 13:15

No I'd just send a card

BigFatLiar · 19/10/2022 13:16

Entirely up to you.

Blondeshavemorefun · 19/10/2022 13:46

Why don’t you want to go to friends esp if you see her

Family weddings slightly different

but I would send a card or a bottle of something via online

CaronPoivre · 19/10/2022 13:47

Yes, traditionally you would.

Luredbyapomegranate · 19/10/2022 13:52

Not unless you want to or they are a close relative / friend.

Otherwise card is fine
