Posting for traffic obvs. 😁

want to give something to the staff on threats after looking after DS.

chocs are the obvious choice…
if you work in a hospital is there something you’d prefer?

A card naming the nurses who took care of you or an email or something similar is always the first thing they’re going to want (I’m a nurse :))

and individually wrapped sweets or chocolates or anything we can eat quick! Thank you and hope your son is on the mend!

For you to vote for a political party that will sort out the NHS 😉

We absolutely would appreciate chocolate on our ward. It’s rare we get anything these days (not that it’s expected!) so a box of Celebrations to share around everybody would be welcomed 👍🏼

I don’t know a single colleague who’d like a protein bar or herbal tea.

My daughter's ward loves it when they're given a big box of biscuits.
They're always well received, it doesn't have to be a fancy or expensive box.

Thank you so much for all the replies.
wouldn’t have thought about naming people in an email so will 💯 do that and in a card. And will go for biscuits & chocs I think 😊

Email to PALs at the hospital naming those who were especially great

Basket of tea/healthy snacks went down well

Does this actually do anything or make a difference? I had a really, really great nurse recently and I considered it but kind of got the impression that they wouldn't even get the message and the email would just sit in an inbox and be ignored.

I have done it twice and both times Pals responded within a day to say that my comments would be passed to the nurse and their manager. Obviously I don't know 100% that it happened but it definitely wasn't completely ignored

@GlassesWearer

They are always passed on to the staff

Toddlerteaplease · 19/10/2022 17:48

A card with my name in. Or an email
To the chief executive. Means so much more than any box of chocolates!

Toddlerteaplease · 19/10/2022 17:49

Not coffee vouchers. They often can't be used in hospital branches of coffee shops.

Depends how much you want to do. I am a midwife and last week a lovely lady I cared for left a beautiful card and sent an Email to PALs thanking all the staff but naming the people she remembered and using specifics (it helps with our revalidation with the NMC) then she did a hamper with facemasks, seperate hot chocolate and coffee sachets and little biscoff packs, hair scrunchies, eye masks, hand lotion, some chocolates, tealight candles and things. It was so appreciated and then everyone had a chance go grab some little bits. But we appreciate anything, honestly. For me a card (or even better and email to PALs as management see it then) is the best thing! I have a folder of my phone of screenshots or photos of cards and on days I feel work is getting too much I read them and it cheers me up and gets me going again!

BayCityTrollers · 19/10/2022 17:56

One of our patients relatives emailed the Chief exec. That really is the nicest thank you any team could ever receive because it’s unusual to do and all the management levels above the ward, and there are a good few, get to know about it. It’s lovely recognition for a hardworking team.

Thanks really is the best gift for any nurse.

Aside from that, we love chocolates and biscuits☺️

Davros · 19/10/2022 17:58

I bought some trays from ikea, filled them with lots of varieties of tea and some nice biscuits and wrapped them in cellophane with a ribbon.

It does make a difference. It can be used for appraisals and revalidation with the NMC. Plus I personally have a folder on my phone with screenshots of the emails I have been forwarded as it makes me feel good on down days. PALs do make sure it gets forwarded and manager copied in. I have seen email chains where it finally gets to me after being sent through numerous wards (sometimes it just says midwife Xxx so they send to maternity and then they have to track down the ward I work on and the right name and check if you remember that person to ensure it reaches the right person!) So if you don't know the surname the include the ward!
