Sorry posting for traffic

all of you in the london know, if you had a weekend in london coming up, what would you do?

massive caveat, it’s with a 3 year old and a 11 month old.

we’re leaving tomorrow for london and staying 3 nights.

we’re definitely doing the natural history museum and going to the rainforest cafe (or whatever it’s called, I know the food is pants but dd went in Disney land and loves it )

what else would you do for your days out? Nothing too expensive. Think mme tuassards and dungeon would be too scary and sealife centres are a bit crap (we’ve got one near us anyway, seen one seen them all) Any recommendations for nice child friendly restaurants with decent enough food for adults?

We were in London a couple of weeks ago with 6, 3 and 1 year olds. We stayed in Chiswick and got the tube in each day.
We did the Jurassic World Exhibition and Natural History Museum, both must do's for a dino lover (my 3year old) London eye and lots of wandering to other spots.

The Princess Diana (blue) memorial park is the water feature, it's closer to the museums (green) but better in summer really.
The princess Diana memorial playground (red) is better, it's a walk/bus/tube but more to do, it's a large enclosed playground with different sections and has toilets within 👍

Sorry - I did mean the playground. Never been to the fountain thing but the playground at the top is great.

Just FYI you have to book to visit the Natural History Museum through their website these days.

Get on a tourist double decker bus with open top, Children go free , I think about £12 per adult, you get to see most of attractions while sitting down, you can hop on and off. My boys loved it
Also went to Covent garden to watch the entertainers, best day Saturday evening.

Where are you staying? With a 3yr old and 11month old, I'd try to avoid as much as possible criss crossing around the whole city because its just a pain on the tube. Maybe we can help with an itinerary nearer to your base?

Depending on the three year old, just riding at the front of the (driverless) Docklands Light Railway train is pretty good fun.(And I say that as an adult )

Yes, but not if you are staying in Chiswick? I couldnt think of anything worse than dragging my toddler plus a baby from Chiswick to Greenwich for the day and i live in London! There's so much to do west and central without having to go so far east. But each to their own 🤷🏻‍♀️

AliceS1994 · 20/10/2022 16:20

Oh and a children's afternoon tea- give it a Google there's plenty to choose from!

AiryFairy1 · 21/10/2022 06:31

Blimey - kids afternoon tea @£35+ per kid?!

At 3 yo my kids would have licked the icing off a cupcake and declared themselves “full”, so I’d definitely wait until they can eat £35 worth of tea food, and appreciate it 😂

Transport museum and Postal museum are great for young kids.

The natural history museum is okay and manageable if you go early and only try and see specific things. As your son is into dinsosaurs, I think it'll be worth it. From many trips there(!) we've worked out the best system is:

  • Arrive at 9.45am (I.e. 15 mins before opening time) and get in the queue.
  • Go straight to the dinosaurs (if you have gone in via the main entrance, the dinosaurs are off to the left of the main hall)
  • Then head to check out the blue whale room
  • Then head to the red zone and get the cool long escalater up through the asteroid, up to the volcano zone and go in the earthquake simulator (it's pretty tame, so suitable for all)
  • Then get the hell out of there, as it'll be seriously busy by then!
ArialAnna · 25/10/2022 09:54

Forgot to mention, there's an entrance / exit in the red zone, so you won't need to battle your way back to the main entrance!

The postal museum is a funny little good one it has a train underground which is tiny and kids love it. It's near Coram fields which is a big playground if they want to let off some steam. It's near kings cross.

The zoo is also good for this age group, it's safe and lots to see. Take food in its really overpriced in there.

Maybe river boat to Greenwich lots to do down that way. Planetarium etc

BryceQuinlanTheFirst · 25/10/2022 10:10

Ohh I just saw where you are staying, my suggestions might be a bit far, is your 3 yr old still in a buggy?
