Snoozing

Swizzle007 · 18/10/2022 18:53

Even on my days off I set my alarm for 6am with the snooze on.
Sometimes I sleep until 9 or so, being woken up every 8 minutes then returning to sleep or snoozing. I like this!!

Does anyone else like to do this?

AIBU No you are bonkers
YANBU Yes me too

Unfortunately my alarm is 8 years old and comes with the inbuilt ‘mummy there’s an emergency/mess/problem’ 6am wake up call, so not possible!

If you feel it makes you well rested and happy carry on! People are so quick to say you’re not supposed to abc/you’re supposed to xyz but if it works for you, it works for you!

I do love waking up on a cold wintry night (especially if it’s a Saturday) and realising it’s only 2am so you can go back to sleep.

Do you have a partner? I'd be furious if DH alarm was going off every 8 minutes for 2 hours!

I take it you are a light sleeper who cannot get back to sleep? I do the same thing and I co-sleep with my child atm, it doesn't even wake them up.

Yes, I'd be awake immediately. My co sleeping children are the same as yours though. No alarm seems to wake them!

FivePotatoesHigh · 19/10/2022 08:25

I don’t understand people who do this. Just set your alarm for when you actually want to get up! Maybe snooze it once or twice but for hours? You’re missing out on what could be much deeper and more restful sleep.

thelobsterquadrille · 19/10/2022 08:27

No, and if DH decided to do this he'd be sleeping on the sofa or in the shed

KimberleyClark · 19/10/2022 08:35

I’m retired, but my alarm is still set for the same time as when I was working. It’s so nice just to switch it off and go back to sleep.

PinkSkiesAtNight · 19/10/2022 11:31

@MrsTerryPratchett obviously you have no idea of my relationship, but it's my choice to stay at his house. Why should I get to demand he change his habits when I have the choice not to stay there? He is one of the most thoughtful people I know, and my life feels much more enriched with him in it. I'm not losing that just so I can have an hour more of sleep.

OldEvilOwl · 19/10/2022 11:34

I could think of nothing worse!

JustAWeirdoWithNoName · 19/10/2022 11:39

That sounds awful - especially on weekends.
However, I do set the alarm for about 15 mins earlier than I need to so that I can let the cat in and have cuddles for 15 mins 🥰

The man I'm seeing does this! Has to leave for work at 6.40. His alarm goes off at 5.30 and then every 5 minutes until he gets up at 6.25. It drives me nuts when I'm there. I'm wide awake at the first alarm, although I'm getting a bit more used to it now and have to remember that at home I only have the one alarm and I have to get up straight away.

I couldn’t share a room with someone so inconsiderate!

20viona · 19/10/2022 11:43

You are bonkers to do that! My idea of hell I have never snoozed an alarm in my life.

HangOnToYourself · 19/10/2022 11:48

I've never understood why anyone would.do this? If you dont need to be up until 6.30 why set an alarm for 5.30 for example? Just set it for 6.30 and get up, you get better sleep quality

Clingfilm · 19/10/2022 11:49

Too long! 3 snoozes max! I set my clock 10 mins fast so I'm always pleasantly surprised when I've got extra time and allows for 1 snooze before my get up time - yes I could set the alarm for 10 mins earlier instead of the clock but psychologically an alarm beginning with 6 makes leaves me aggrieved😄.

That's really selfish of him.

GasPanic · 19/10/2022 11:58

I used to live in a house where someone did this - it's very annoying. I wouldn't mind it a couple of times, but when someone does it for 15 mins for every quarter of an hour from 4 oclock to 7 oclock then gets up goes for a shower and then forgets to turn their alarm off it gets tedious real fast.

I agree with the poster about the weird dreams thing.

The dreams I have after I have woken up after a long sleep then fallen asleep again are much stranger and more vivid.

Maybe it's because you don't forget them as easily when you wake up. Or maybe it's because your brain is more alert in the second sleep.

Same!

My DH snoozes about 3 times during the week and I want to kill him. On your day off seems crazy

Youdoyoutoday · 19/10/2022 12:12

An alarm going off every 8 minutes from 6am til 9am???

You're clinically insane!!

Some people find it more relaxing to chill out in bed for an hour rather than set the alarm for the very last minute and know that you must spring straight out of bed the second it goes or you’ll be late.

It’s not that hard to understand - different people do different things that work for them.

Elieza · 19/10/2022 14:10

I hope you have thick walls. My place was built 20 years ago and the walls aren’t the thickest.

Next door does the snooze thing for about two to three hours.

BEEP BEEP.BEEP,,,

BEEP BEEP BEEP,,,
BEEP BEEP BEEP,,,

It wakens me at the first one and then I’m up whether I like it or not. He works Saturdays too so I don’t get a long lie in.

Id suggest if you want to be crazy and do this thing fine, but please turn your alarm sound right down or have it on your watch vibrating so it doesn’t disturb others as that’s just selfish and inconsiderate.

Does anyone ever wake up in the night and realise they have hours left then fall back to sleep with a smile on their face? Grin

I love this! Such a treat seeing I have 4 or whatever hours of sleep left!

A few minutes I can get pit several hours just seems silly as it interrupts your sleep and the main problem is when you have a partner it interrupts theirs as well (i say his as someone who has dated people who do this and its infuriating)

Obviously if it is a huge problem for a partner the that partner should raise it and sort it out. But in regards to disturbing your own sleep it might suit some people, even though you personally think it’s silly.
