To be scared of having general anaesthetic?

Posting here for traffic really!!

I have an op at some point this morning to remove my gallbladder, so keyhole surgery under general anaesthetic. When I was talking about "whipping it out" I don't think I actually thought this far ahead and now it's here and I'm bricking it! That's all really, being a softie and over thinking - how do they make sure I'm asleep? Do I really not feel anything during?

YANBU, I'm terrified of having a GA! Something about it really frightens me. Hope you're doing ok OP. Thank you for this thread; I feel really reassured by lots of other people being a bit scared too!

I get wired after a GA, it's so weird. Ping awake and then can't sleep for a good few days after Confused
Last time I woke up about 4pm (5hr op) and was eating a full meal by 6pm as I was so hungry. No sickness, and then awake all night
The staff were ConfusedHmm "this isn't very common"
Me "can I go home now?" Grin

This was me after an abdominal hysterectomy. They wouldn't let me eat though. I was wide awake all night, thankfully in a private room so I had my radio on and could read without disturbing anyone. . I was desperately thirsty and ringing for a fresh jug of water every hour. At 3am they disconnected my drip as they said I was doing a good jon of hydrating myself. At 4.30am they brough me a cup of tea and some biscuits. That tea was the best tea I have ever had!

Glad this post has helped others too. I'm home now, had my first night's sleep and can now hear the baby banging his feet against the cot to get up 🤣 back to normality xxx

I had one recently for the first time and was very nervous but all went well.

@Furries agree, the anesthesiologist was really lovely.

I was terrified. But honestly it was fine.

As someone else said count to 10, you won't make it and next thing you know you'll be waking up 😊
