AIBU to worry about DS

4 yo DS is always poorly. He’s at nursery 30 hours a week and seems to permanently be poorly. Just in the last two weeks he’s had a cough and cold, an episode of nausea, a week later an episode of two days of diarrhoea and now the cough and cold is back again. I know they pick up bugs but I’m worried there’s something wrong.

He’s eaten well the whole time, sleeping the same and playing with friends and full of energy. Just can’t help but worry he’s got something wrong and that’s why he picks things up? Me and DH have also had the cough and cold and have it again this time round so basically a month of snotty noses and a cough! We luckily didn’t get the sickness or diarrhoea but that then makes me worry it’s something wrong with him and not a bug.

I am a worrier but it feels relentless and I just need some reassurance without seeing a GP who will probably tell me I’m mad!

This sounds pretty normal unfortunately. Especially this autumn - there seem to be loads of bugs around!

Totally normal.

Thanks for the reassurance so far! Sometimes I just think really?! My god this is never ending!! Despite vitamins and a relatively good diet!

It’s very normal - nurseries are hotbeds for all sorts of bugs and sickness. Kids are like beacons for it! Remember his body’s defences aren’t as developed and experienced as yours and DH’s yet. He’ll settle down. 💕

Have you tried sambucol? It's a high tonic vitamin C. I swear by it

No I haven’t. He has abidec every morning in milk but it doesn’t seem to help a lot! We have just finished a bottle so maybe I’ll try that instead thank you!

My nephew was like this to the point he just wasn't catching a break.
The doctor ordered some blood tests over at the hospital. They all came back fine thankfully but she wanted to reassure my DSis and get see if there was an underlying issue.

Just nursery full of bugs!

That’s reassuring! I don’t want to subject him to tests and am sure a Dr wouldn’t even do them I just wish he’d get a break… and us!

If he's eating, sleeping and has plenty of energy, if he seems happy, then I think you are worrying unnecessarily.

Check with a gp if you are really worried, but it's prime bug season and he's 4 which means he shares bugs with everyone.
