Posting here for traffic which I know is unreasonable in itself weeks!

40 weeks pregnant with my second baby. First was a planned induction and had an epidural from the off so no real idea of what the beginning of labour should be like ! I'm actually booked in for an induction next week if baby isn't here by then...midwife said today that he/she isn't engaged really so no signs of baby coming.

Anyway felt a bit off all evening but nothing major, finished doing some housey bits I wanted to get done and went to bed about midnight. Baby very active. Suddenly felt quite sick and back was hurting although I think this may have been because of how I was lying as its eased now. Couldn't sleep so have come in the bath, immediately upon lying in the bath started being sick. Now I have stomach pain across the front of my bump, almost like I've eaten something dodgy but I can't think what 🤔

Anyone experienced anything like this? I'm going to try and get some sleep but just worried as the pain / discomfort is continuous I didn't know if I should give triage a call or if I'd be hugely wasting their time !

I don't think it's contractions, doesn't feel like braxton hicks which I've had loads of previously... my bump is slightly hard but no "waves of pain" etc and my back feels much better now I'm in the bath.

Any advice would be amazing as I am really a bit clueless 🙈

Call your maternity and speak to a triage MW. They'll be much more qualified to answer your questions than a bunch of insomniac randos on MN (I include myself in that). 😂

Notacluewhatimdoingasalways · 18/10/2022 01:03

@Adelyra haha yes the sensible side of me says to ring... the other side says I've been symptom spotting for days and have probably just eaten something dodgy 🙈

I think I'm only putting off ringing because I don't actually want to go into hospital... as ridiculous as that is now.

At 40 weeks labour is much more likely than having eaten something iffy!!!

Ring triage!!! Good luck.

Hellopello · 18/10/2022 01:07

💐Good luck

Notacluewhatimdoingasalways · 18/10/2022 01:07

Do I ring this early or do I wait and see if it progresses? I should really know this.

There's no harm in calling for a bit of advice now

Blahdeebla · 18/10/2022 01:09

Ring for sure !

toomuchlaundry · 18/10/2022 01:11

I thought I had very bad ingestion at 40 weeks, had DS 6 hours later!

Notacluewhatimdoingasalways · 18/10/2022 01:12

Thank you everyone, tried ringing and it's engaged so will try again in a little bit. Pain seems to have eased a little bit too so I'm going to attempt sleep. :)

The day before I had DC1 I was wandering around a shopping centre with "stomach cramps", convinced I'd eaten something dodgy. I was 39 weeks and had also been told baby wasn't really engaged yet. My waters went that evening and he was born 4 hours later 😃good luck OP!

ShippingNews · 18/10/2022 04:27

Second babies don't normally engage until you are in labour so don't assume anything. It does sound like labour to me - ring triage !

Zonder · 18/10/2022 04:57

Definitely ring. I was in a similar position, rang for advice and they told me I was in labour. I had no idea and thought something was wrong but they were very helpful on the phone.

supersop60 · 18/10/2022 05:13

Definitely ring. With my DC2 I was having Braxton Hicks regularly during the day (no pain) and then woke up in the night with diarrhoea. Baby born 4 hours later. Nothing like labour with DC1.

Minniem2020 · 18/10/2022 05:25

When I had DD I couldn't tell if the pains I was having were labour or an upset stomach. I'd had a few niggles all day then started with pains and diarrhoea later on. Turns out it was labour and my body clearing itself out in preparation, DD was born about 8 hours later. Sounds like labour to me op. Good luck!

WhereTheFuckIsMyFuckingCoat · 18/10/2022 05:31

How are you going OP?

With no. 2, I had jiggling back pain, then some undignified vomiting and diarrhoea in a public bathroom that reminded me a bit of the horrendous scene in trainspotting. My back pain was pretty severe and I felt quite unwell so I popped into my GP who took a urinalysis and sent me to the labour ward to get checked out, as I had a little blood in my urine and "possibly a urine infection".

The midwives put the monitor on me and told me I was contracting regularly. Honestly had no idea!! dS2 born about 6hrs later.

Good luck!!

Notacluewhatimdoingasalways · 18/10/2022 06:29

Thanks everyone for the messages. That train spotting bit did make me laugh! Definitely in labour, currently at the hospital for monitoring because of the way my last birth was they've advised I stay in now.
