Family member having Cataract removed in November! Anyone any useful information like how long did it take you to drive again, any hints or tips please?

@TooTrusting , how is your mother now? I hope she was referred for more help.

Thank you for asking. We went for a follow up about 6 weeks ago. Things much the same, a very small improvement. My worry was if it wasn't better after more than a month of all the various eye drops then it wasn't going to improve, but they did say it can take time.

Next follow up is a week Thursday and DM has said she feels like her sight has improved. So I'm hoping all is going in the right direction.

DM and DF are really struggling with the now 6 times a day regimen of 3 different drops/ointments as she can't do it herself and DF finds it hard too.
If it's not going to get sufficiently better the only treatment is a corneal transplant which I know she will refuse. I'm sure she'll also refuse her other cataract being done too. She's found the whole thing incredibly depressing, it's affected her mobility since she has no depth perception any more. But fingers crossed she does seem to be turning a corner.

I'm glad they haven't washed their hands of her. Has she/ have you tried using an eye-drop gadget? Mine's called Autodrop and was £5.00 from the local chemist. It really does help, especially if I lie down to do it.
So sorry your mum's experience has been so awful. Hope her sight really is improving. Can't blame her for not wanting to have the other done.

Only just seen this, thank you I'll go and investigate that.
We are seeing the corneal specialist in the morning.

My mum had her first one done on a Wednesday, she was out shopping the day after. She had been terrified but said she had been through worst visits to the dentist, she had hers done at least 8 years ago & has perfect vision now, doesn't need glasses unlike me.

I had both mine done a week apart. I didn't drive during that week but could see fine once the first one was done. My brain "tuned out" the bad eye. My dad had his done just after me and struggled with double vision until he had his second eye done so I guess it varies. I drove a couple of days after my second eye was done.

Good news, the corneal oedema is at last gone.
The next eye is on the urgent list and the corneal specialist has said she will get it again (not likely to, but will). She understands that she has to have the op as the lens is thickening and the knock on effects of this will ultimately cause her to go blind. At least this time we will be prepared for a long haul recovery. Her mobility has improved a lot since she can see again, it'll be awful for her regressing again, but the alternative is to go blind so there's no choice.
Her eyelid is drooping quite a lot, he said that was also fairly normal as the muscle can weaken as a result of the device used to keep the lids opening during surgery, and will take time to improve.
