Painful breast lump - urgent referral in N.I.

Posting here for traffic, I'll ask to move if necessary. Is there anyone in N.I. who has been referred to the breast clinic and could tell me how long it usually takes to be seen?
I developed a painful lump in my breast on Friday evening, sore yesterday and now today my skin is itchy. I rang o.o.h. who advised that I ring the g.p. in the morning so they can refer me to the breast clinic. I'm wondering how long it may take because I commute 2 hours for work. Does anyone know if I speak to a g.p. tomorrow morning/afternoon will it be hours or days before I get an appointment at the breast clinic? Tia.

I'm in N.I, I got my appointment within 2 weeks although I am in the high risk category because of family history. The doctor did give me an appointment and checked breast before this. Definitely ring in the morning to get things moving. Really hope it turns out to be nothing. Try not to worry.

I’m in NI too and have a family history of Breast Cancer. I was seen at the clinic within two weeks too. Try not to worry.

In NI, got seen within 2 weeks even though my GP was pretty sure it was not urgent and it was just a cyst. I do have some family history of breast cancer but I'm not sure I even mentioned that to the GP. It was just a cyst, they drained it with a needle the same day.

I'm in North East England, so realise things can be different, but they have a 2 week timeframe from the time you get to the docs, it is pretty well monitored (they have to see you within 2 weeks - I think that is a thing). I had a very sore spot rather than a lump (at 5-7 oclock on the nipple), and by the time I got the appointment it had almost disappeared and I was a bit embarrassed about making a fuss. Got the full breast scan thing (that squeezes you), then ultrasound with jelly, all pretty quick, but then they told me at the appointment that there was no issue. The whole thing took quite a long time (I was in there 3 hours) I know you will have to be checked out properly, but they did tell me that if you check your breasts regularly, sudden sore lumps were not as bad as non-sore undetected lumps. Please try not to worry. X

Breast cancer is unlikely io be painful hopefully.

If you have a painful breast pump you should have antibiotics

sentientpuddle · 17/10/2022 11:18

Yes, I'm concerned about a possible abscess whilst trying not to think about anything more sinister.
O.o.h. said they could prescribe antibiotics but I need an examination first. If I notice any redness or swelling then they could go ahead & prescribe.
I had mastitis quite a few times when breastfeeding so I know the signs to look out for.
