Drove past my old rented house last night that I moved out of 9 months ago. The light was on and i could see in. Am i weird for wanting to look in for nostalgias sake? I would love to see where the new tenants have put all their furniture and how different it looks. Dont know if its me. Im obseesed with looking at houses though. I oftern look on right move for houses in my area as I love looking at houses 🏘 😄

It's normal. Just don't go knocking on their door asking to look.

Reminds me of this song:

We have had two people who grew up in our house over to see it. It was fun for us, actually. I also keep in touch with the grandson of the couple that built it and know a ton about their history.

My brother visited our old childhood home once. The people left him wander around and said he could open closets, etc. Wonderful experience for him.

I sold a house a few years ago and won’t even drive by it now if I can help it. I don’t like the changes they’ve made and it’s just too soon.

It was a fascinating day when my childhood home came up on Rightmove - we sold it when I was 14 and 15 years later it was up for sale. I just about resisted the urge to book a viewing to poke around but I did enjoy looking at the pictures online…

I live about 4 houses down the lane from my beloved 130 year old cottage which i very sadly left when i left XH in 2007 (i left him in it and he trashed it to spite me Sad) because of how he treated it it sold for a pittance.

I lived elsewhere for years, but now i've moved back onto the lane it makes my heart hurt to see my cottage. There's been 2 or 3 new sets of owners and they've done various things to it.

The two main ones which rankle me are: knocked down the 120 year old dry stone wall and paved over my the cottage beautiful full of holihocks and roses ect. to make a car park, and replaced the old double glazing which was in keeping with the age for 'orrible cheap windows and the original wooden door for a white plastic one.

I didn't realise how much it would affect me and i know it's daft, it's their house now, but it was so beautiful back in the day. I only think of it and get bitter when i walk past and see it

.... but that's four times a day now! (school run) 🙄😂

Please don’t knock and ask. How intrusive. Especially when you left only 9 months ago. Perhaps a bit different if you grew up in the house 50 years before but even then I’d tell a random knocker no and go look at photos from past sales listings on Rightmove/zoopla

Ooh yes i recently looked up my childhood home back in London.

Unrecognisable! I was fully expecting a lot of changes (25 years since my parents sold up), but everything was SO different i couldn't even work out which was my old room from the photos! 😂

I’d love to go back to my childhood home. I looked at the pictures when it was up for sale, and was amazed at how small it looked.

Unsurefriend1983 · 15/10/2022 17:05

I wasn't going to knock on. Nowhere in my post says I was going to knock on! Was just musing that it would be nice to look!

I think it is a bit strange to have that longing when you've only moved out less than a year ago.

I get it (and would be interested myself) to look round homes I lived in years ago, or even my childhood home.

I too, love looking at houses on right move / Zoopla / local agents sites though.
