I haven’t had much luck over the years and simply cannot afford to buy another that doesn’t suit our needs. It would have to deal with dust from a real fire, a dog that casts constantly, and a couple of children with very long hair, oh and some shaggy rugs too. I’m thinking more an upright but maybe a Henry or equivalent? I don’t have family to ask for recommendations so thought I’d post here. Thanks.

Replace it FOC, not fix

mogsrus · 15/10/2022 17:07

We have had a few Dyson machines, then bought a Shark. Wishing we had had it before the others, makes them look like clockwork

Seashor · 15/10/2022 17:08

As someone has previously said , a shark upright. It’s absolutely brilliant.

Abitofalark · 15/10/2022 17:10

I have an ancient Vax which is heavy and bulky. Next time I want an upright which is lighter and manoeuvrable, so it's helpful that those aspects have been mentioned in replies here - although opinions may vary. It's so hard to know what to get that I keep hanging on to the old one and fixing it with tape.

Sprig1 · 15/10/2022 17:11

Definitely henry.

LadyHestia · 15/10/2022 18:09

@WizardOfUK I’d forgotten to include Vax in my deliberations! We’ve been all hardwood floors for years but changing to carpet to make house warmer so need to think of everything.

For some reason people always think hoovers with bags went out with the ark. Then, especially dog owners, try Miele bag vacuums and are blown away (scuse the pun) by how amazing they are. They last for decades and are far better than any Dyson or Shark I've ever tried (we move a lot so I've borrowed every brand).
If you have pets or really live in your house, then Miele wins hands down.

HighlandPony · 15/10/2022 18:16

Henry. I’ve used Henry’s commercially for years and they’re the shizz. I’ve done crack dens, crime scenes, slums and everything with them and they just get the job done. Please note I said Henry, not the pretty pink hetty. She’s guff

DogsDryWineAndCheese · 15/10/2022 18:16

Shark (anti hair wrap) - fantastic and they never quibble over the warranty. They just ‘do’.
Henry - bulky to drag but never breaks.

Moooooooooooooooooo · 15/10/2022 20:16

I got the Miele CX1 Cat and Dog and it’s bagless.

SophieJo · 15/10/2022 20:18

Don’t buy a Dyson animal as it is so heavy to move around. My husband chose it so he can use it!
Seriously it is very very heavy to move around. Was very disappointed as have always had a Dyson before.

Blondeissimo · 15/10/2022 20:20

Sebo upright! Had mine for a few years and it's ace. Copes with long hair and cat fur without issues.

Miele. Just brilliant (I have a Shark too but much prefer the Miele).

Agree with this. I hate the bloody shark. It's so temperamental and spits everything out when you switch it off.
The Miele is amazing. I have a fluffy ginger cat that leaves fluff everywhere. The Miele copes no bother.

TheHouseonHauntedHill · 15/10/2022 20:21

Meile However

You must get the turbo brush!

Anyone must get the turnaround brush.

mycatisannoying · 15/10/2022 20:21

Miele Miele Miele Miele. Miele.

MarieCondom · 15/10/2022 20:23

Henry gets my vote every time. I have several houses and have a Henry in all of them.

Not Dyson!!

We also have an upright Vax which is remarkably good so long as you don't need to carry it anywhere, as it weighs a ton.

itsnotdeep · 15/10/2022 20:30

I have a Miele (I think it's a c3 but not at all sure). It's miles better than the absolutely awful Shark.

I don't mind a Henry, but prefer my Miele.

Don't get a Shark. They're shit.

itsnotdeep · 15/10/2022 20:31

oh, i have many pets. Go for Miele!

HuntingoftheSnark · 15/10/2022 20:38

Another Henry vote.

reallyworriedjobhunter · 15/10/2022 20:40

Henry. I've always had Mieles before but I am so impressed with the Henry.
Plus the bags are cheap and I can us it for mucky household jobs without being too precious about it.

autienotnaughty · 15/10/2022 20:44

Shark is dreadful
Dyson is average
Vac is ok
Henry is brilliant

MumE78 · 15/10/2022 20:45

Meile 💯

Dreikanter · 15/10/2022 20:52

Miele. The 10 yr guarantee ran out several years ago and it’s still as good as new. I have the basic model and it copes fine with cats / dogs and hard floors / carpets.

Geranium1984 · 15/10/2022 21:01

Henry or miele
Dont go for any bagless models, they loose suction really quickly.

catandcoffee · 15/10/2022 21:08

Henry... he's amazing.
Just be aware he sucks everything up. I've lost cleaning clothes, money ect.
