Am I being unreasonable in being really angry at over grown children crapping on our shared history and cultural achievements, and the creation of one if the most famous works out art, from a tortured soul who still could express himself like this.

I genuinely think they'll turn more people off their cause than get them on board.

Not all attention is good attention. Gluing yourself in rush hour to a tube train which hundreds of thousands of people use to get to work (thus making it possible for them not to use cars) and making them all late was not good PR. Blocking emergency ambulances from getting to A&E was not good PR. Trying to do permanent damage to world class masterpieces is not good PR. I have been trying to be more green since before these smug entitled ecovandals were born. I won't stop trying to do what little I can, but I do actively avoid supporting any business that seems to have a connection with XR or similar groups.

Duckskitbank · 14/10/2022 13:15

They appear to have escaped from drama school…and not a very good one.

GG1986 · 14/10/2022 13:17

I get they are trying to send a message, but they will not get people on their side by being a nuisance. Causing traffic jams is causing even more pollution and chucking food at art is a waste of money and that could have fed a child, glueing themselves to things is using resources, time and money to move them on, it makes no sense at all!

ThreeFeetTall · 14/10/2022 13:18

I am very much in favour of their cause, and worried that this sort of thing undermines it. I know you need to make a big statement to get on TV but can't they see this is just going to alienate people?

ThreeFeetTall · 14/10/2022 13:19

They should have footage of them helping a low income pensioner insulate their home.

SquirrelSoShiny · 14/10/2022 13:20

CrushedPistachios · 14/10/2022 12:34

Yeah, in general I do support the cause of needing to review climate change policies, but their methods are very antagonistic and definitely alienate a core of the public who are generally favourable.

Exactly this. So much of this is driven by the need for social media performancd cookies rather than bringing about change.

AnnPerkins · 14/10/2022 13:08

In the words of Geoff Norcott 'This makes me want to frack my own garden'.

These fucking brats are making enemies out of ordinary people who agree with their cause.

If there's a PR genius out there who can turn useful acts into effective activism, like guerrilla loft-insulating or something I will back them every step of the way.

😂

Now that I could back. Helping real people with actual stuff.

just like I support the community fridge for saving food waste etc actual do something not cause problems because you want someone else to fix it.

Rutland2022 · 14/10/2022 13:24

I’m fully committed to the climate change cause- only drive EV’s, not flown for a decade etc but they are absolute cunts that should be locked up. It’s vandalism and does absolutely no good at all.

Lawful protesting is fine, I encourage it. Totally support free speech. But I deplore this sort of thing. Crettins.

This. But I fear that would be too much like hard work.

Bonjovispjs · 14/10/2022 13:27

I agree that the idiots who glue themselves to things should just be left there, bet they wouldn't do it again.

queenofarles · 14/10/2022 13:30

If I'd have seen them doing it I don't think I could have stopped myself slapping them both. hypothetically what would happen if i someone did that ?

What ever happened to the lady who shoved not hit but pushed one with her car?

Clymene · 14/10/2022 13:41

Entitled little shits.

askmenow · 14/10/2022 13:48

I'd pull them off the walls and leave their glued skin behind. Entitled privileged kids who should be at work.
Who has the time to carry out this SH...TE ??

Aren't we all tooo busy trying to earn a crust!

CatchYouOnTheFlippetyFlop · 14/10/2022 13:51

People like this fuck me off. I'd be very surprised if they cared about the cause they are fighting for.

Shitty people like that will jump on any bandwagon where they think they can get away with their violent/destructive behaviour.

YANBU. The fools live in echo chambers though so they do not realise how childish antics like these turn most of us in the real world, against them and their cause.

Bakingdiva · 14/10/2022 12:35

What gets me is that they are wanging on about waste, but they are throwing good food, that could be donated to a food bank, onto a picture - irony much!

The one that really made my blood boil was the activists emptying bottle after bottle of milk on the floor in F&M & Harrods, they even emptied them over a stand full of cheese. I know that the shoppers in there aren't exactly on the poverty line, but the WASTE! And what was it going to achieve, other than to piss people off? It's not going to stop people drinking milk, it's going to mean that the milk had to be replaced, and (possibly) given there is now less supply it might make milk a penny or two more expensive which will affect everyone (especially if they do it more) .

That's what I thought of too. And some member of staff having to clean up their mess while they wanked around feeling like fucking revolutionaries or some shit.

I've got no words for how contemptible I find these little shits.

PurpleWisteria · 14/10/2022 12:27

They really are dreadful people. Giggling like naughty children when they stopped an emergency ambulance.

They are in it for their own egos. Nothing else.

This!

PankhurstismySuffregette · 14/10/2022 14:08

Just an excuse to vandalise. They are c u next tuesdays imo.

dottiedodah · 14/10/2022 14:08

They are hypocritical and juvenile .Trying to destroy famous works of Art FFS! I thought they were going to clamp down on them? Please hurry up!

GreenWheat · 14/10/2022 14:11

I hate these aresholes. They are using a valid cause for concern as justification to commit unrelated crimes they fancy.

MimosaSunrise · 14/10/2022 14:32

The painting is protected by glass so nothing has been damaged

I wouldn’t want to rely on this to chuck something liquid over a priceless artwork as I have no idea to what extent it would actually be protected. Do these protestors know any more about this than the average person on the street? Hell of a risk to take if not.

Reminds me of a documentary I saw years ago where environmental activists set fire to buildings, claiming to be sure nobody was in them (and I don’t think they were). There is no way the parties in either case could be 100% sure no harm world occur, which is what makes their blithe reassurances so pathetic. They cannot guarantee what they are claiming and have no right to subject other people - and in this case valuable artworks - to such risk on the basis of their highly fallible risk assessments.
