To send my son to school tomorrow

My five year old daughter vomited everywhere tonight after complaining of being sick since she got home from school. She is obviously not going into school tomorrow but I've decided to send my other child who isn't sick. I feel like he is more at risk of getting sick being at home tomorrow. My husband says he will collect him from school if he does have to go home, so I won't have to disturb my daughter. My son's teacher is just getting over a different virus and I feel bad potentially infecting her, but my son is not sick, to the best of my knowledge.

Yabu: he needs to stay at home just in case
Yanbu: he isn't sick so should go to school

If he goes in, I suggest he wears a mask just in case and keep washing his hands.

Ps) any tips for preventing the spread in the family? I also have a baby and want to protect her (and me) from getting it.

I would observe him closely tomorrow morning for any signs he is unwell, but otherwise send him in. You can’t keep everyone home when one gets sick - this time of year mine would be home more than school if that were the case.

If he's not sick I'm not sure they'd authorise his absence anyway? To avoid spreading it just extra hand washing, disinfectant after throwing up etc. Basically same advice as the whole stop the spread thing with covid.

This is off-topic, I know-but do you have the class teacher’s phone number?!

Smartiepants79 · 13/10/2022 19:53

Of course you send him!
He’s not ill!
You don’t keep kids off school because their siblings are unwell and they ‘might’ have caught it! They’d never go to school if they did.

Why are you speaking to the teacher at this time of night? Please allow them to have a break!

She's one of my best friends and we were chatting anyway.

We are friends outside of school.

yabu for sending him in a mask

It was never a thing to keep children at home because a sibling is/ was sick. They’d never get their education (ok maybe an exaggeration but they’d miss alot).
Covid has got us all worrying too much i think.
