Extended dog sitting

We have just moved house. My partners daughter has also just moved. We are already storing her piano which takes up a load of space in our living room.
For the past 3 weeks she has also left her pet dog with us.
We are not allowed to keep a pet in our rented apartment. This there is a continuous stress of hoping the landlady doesn’t pop in and catch us out.
We both work.
My partner has to come home at lunchtime every day to let the dog do it’s business.
It barks every time there is a delivery or someone walks past the apartment. This is bound to be annoying other residents.
Would it be unreasonable to insist the daughter take the dog back or put it into doggy daycare? She feels her own house isn’t safe yet as there are boxes everywhere and wants us to keep the dog longer. She is also pregnant.

She's moved and she's pregnant?
Unpacked boxes isn't an excuse to leave your dog with family.
Congratulations on your new dog!
She's never taking the dog back

Ridiculous. Tell her to collect the dog now.

lickenchugget · 12/10/2022 23:08

Unsafe for her dog? What a load of shit, she’s taking the piss

whitemats · 12/10/2022 23:11

This is ridiculous of her. When I moved house my parents had our dog for the 8 hours the movers would be in and out, then she came home. What an irresponsible dog owner she is

NoSquirrels · 12/10/2022 23:14

She’s hoping you’ll keep the dog.

She’s pregnant and has decided she can’t be responsible for it any more.

Your partner needs to insist it cannot stay longer. But I bet he won’t. He’s the one you need to work on.

MM1972 · 12/10/2022 23:15

My partner is saying she’ll have to take it back or give it away.
I’m almost hoping the landlady comes and sees it. Usually my partner would do anything for the daughter but due to us being evicted at short notice (previous land lady wanted to sell) and the difficulty finding somewhere new keeping the dog forever isn’t an option.

Tell her landlady has spotted dog, complained and said dog must go asap. It’s her dog, either she takes him or rehomes the poor bloody sod.

And she should never get another one!!!!!!!

NoSquirrels · 12/10/2022 23:24

If you and your partner are in agreement, just drop the dog back to her.

I don’t think she should have any pets. The previous dog was totally neglected. In fact I’d threatened to report the mis-treatment of the previous dog and a Guinea pig. However I was threatened with being thrown out if I did.

Are you in the UK? Landlords/ladies can no longer say you can't have pets. Unless they've got a very good reason. I know this misses the point. But just FYI.

Yes but in Northern Ireland. We were evicted at 8 weeks notice from the last place which could not happen elsewhere. We’d been there almost 7 years and kids had nearby friends. Never missed a rental payment. Our ‘crime’ was reporting the immersion heater was broken.

Ah! Sorry. Rules may be different in NI. Apologies if I've misled you. How horrid that you got chucked out.
