AIBU?
To think the Escooter company/companies should bear some responsibility?
Keyansier · 12/10/2022 17:43
For contributing to towns looking so tatty lately? I can't be the only person who has noticed absolutely loads of Escooters just randomly dumped in the streets. I know that's the point of them and they eventually get picked up but there's loads of them and it makes us look like a third world country or the wild wild west or something. AIBU to think they should have to pay some sort of compensation to someone (perhaps local councils) for us public to have to put up with having to look at it? I'm not sure if it's one company or multiple but it/all should bear responsibility.
Am I being unreasonable?

Are "third world countries" and the Wild West known for their prolific dumped e-scooters?
PickAChew · 12/10/2022 17:47
Not unreasonable at all. I had to pop into the rvi in Newcastle, a couple of weeks ago, and they were completely blocking the footpaths around it and the university. Dangerous to navigate and blocking access for anyone disabled.
PickAChew · 12/10/2022 17:48
Though I missed the "third world country" comment. That bit is ignorant, bordering on the ridiculous.

Let's get rid of cars lining the streets too, they don't look good either

Aye, a lot of the people are a bit untidy, too, lets get rid of they fuckers whilst we're at it.
girlmom21 · 12/10/2022 17:51
Where are you seeing them? I know it can't be London because I know how much you love it there
Clevererthanyou · 12/10/2022 17:51
I'm disabled and I've yet to have my path blocked by an escooter. Plenty of cunts double parking their SUV on the pavement and/or on dropped kerbs though. (Can you tell it annoys me).
NumberTheory · 12/10/2022 17:52
Not unreasonable at all. I live in a city (in another country) that was used for lots of trials. People got so fed up they brought in laws banning them unless they were licensed and then they put a bunch of regulations in place to stop them just being left all over the place. Not sure how enforceable the regulations actually are (or even what they are!), but it’s made a world of difference to the streetscape.

But cars are generally parked. Escooters aren't parked, they run out of battery or credit or whatever and just stop wherever they are and left there.
Has anyone else seriously not noticed them everywhere lately?

Now you mention it I did see some outside the Saloon and the Livery Stables when I rode into town for the hanging.
Vulpine · 12/10/2022 18:02
So cars, parked or not, are allowed to take up huge amounts of space and yet you have a problem with a few rag tag scooters, which are what, the 20th of a car size?

I have seriously not noticed them everywhere lately.
I'm guessing I probably don't live in the same place that you do though.
Ponderingwindow · 12/10/2022 18:06
They are being kicked out of a bunch of towns in my area.
clutter plus an increase in injuries. No one totes proper safety gear so the entire concept of e scooters on demand is flawed.
Keyansier · 12/10/2022 18:06
I'm really surprised that people mostly disagree.
What are the advantages to having scooters littering the streets?
Keyansier · 12/10/2022 18:09
@Vulpine because cars are parked (yes, badly sometimes, but majority parked within parking guidelines) and scooters aren't because they don't have areas dedicated to their parking (or laws AFAIK) so are just dumped in the streets. I'm not sure why you're trying to pass it off as though the two are the same thing?
sandytooth · 12/10/2022 18:10
They are usually in the parking spots for them? Not just randomly dotted around.

No they are randomly dotted around, that's my point. There aren't parking spots because someone who is using one to get to X isn't going to go to Y to "take it back" and then still have to get to X. That wouldn't make any sense to them.

I haven't seen this. Most people seem to use them to get from one parking spot to another?

People can use them to get around easily. They make money, mean less traffic on the roads and they're more environmentally friendly.
NumptiesIncorporated · 12/10/2022 18:14
People are probably disagreeing with you because your threat is based on a false assumption - that this is an issue everywhere.
Vulpine · 12/10/2022 18:14
Cars are the norm, you're used to them. Do you think when they first started appearing back in ye olden days, people complained about them too? and they sure do create much more havoc and carnage than scooters.
