Oh went to sleep at 11pm fell asleep promptly
CoveredInCobwebs · 12/10/2022 03:48
Stop looking at phone! Put on a podcast and just close your eyes and listen to it. You will probably drift off. Now I’m going to take my own advice 🙂
georgarina · 12/10/2022 03:51
it's the worst isn't it. I have to take a sleep aid in the evening otherwise I'm wide awake all night, like tonight.
FindingMyself1999 · 12/10/2022 03:51
That’d prob wake up DH lol! I have my calm app but it would wake him unless I put it on very very quiet
FindingMyself1999 · 12/10/2022 03:53
Yes I hate it. I think compounded by the bloody hectic day I’ve got tomorrow and DH has too at work - school not made it easy this week with lots of pre half term activities to remember.
lots of ‘little’ jobs to do.
im on my period and that’s played havoc this month. I’ve already and insomnia last week twice with it. Tried tiring myself out more by doing long walks at lunch. Didn’t help!

What do you take?
LadyB49 · 12/10/2022 03:56
I’ve had insomnia for as long as I can remember. No point in fighting it. I get up for a time then back to bed and read. I’ll fall asleep reading.

There's been a recent thread about this;

Put something really boring on TV like how it’s made… Never fails
Also herbal teas that help sleep, I like the pukka night time tea
FindingMyself1999 · 12/10/2022 04:00
Thanks going to do calm app found my headphones. Paranoid they’ll strangle me! But I’ll give my clam app a go. Don’t want to wake DH who has a day of meetings as so I. Feeling sick at the thought of trying to get through tomorrow.

Audible audio books app. Listen in the dark in bed till you fall asleep. The app has a sleep timer.
Boxshibe · 12/10/2022 04:44
No idea but would like tips. I have a stupidly busy day today need to travel to London so getting a 630 train so my brain thought 330 was a great time to be awake.
6demandingchildren · 12/10/2022 04:49
I lay next to husband and get irrationally annoyed with him for sleeping so soundly .
And then I Mumsnet.
I don't sleep well at all due to pain.
When I occasionally get 6 full hours of sleep it feels amazing.
GabrielAgreste · 12/10/2022 05:02
Totally anecdotal, but I am generally quite insomniac. Have recently cut out dairy to see if it will my help allergies & have been sleeping well. Last night I’m pretty sure DH accidentally gave me cow milk in my tea and here I am! Been awake nearly an hour already. So I’m definitely going to be keeping an eye on that pattern!
Qwerty111 · 12/10/2022 05:46
I’ve had bouts of insomnia a few times a year for 40 years, sigh.
I give myself 30 minutes to go back to sleep and if that doesn’t happen give up and get up. Read, browse the internet, do quiet chores.
I’ve tried daytime naps, milky drinks, cutting out dairy, screen time cutoffs, none of it made a jot of difference (lol there weren’t any screens when it first started for me). The only way I can break out of it is to power straight through the days. For me, it usually lasts 2 or 3 nights and then I’m so tired that nothing could wake me and I sleep through.

Separate rooms.
Magnesium tablets.
Same bed time every night, and read.
No phone in the bedroom.
Antihistamine if it’s a bad night.
Tayegete · 12/10/2022 06:51
Magnesium tablets have worked wonders for me. I used to average 2-4 hours a night and I’m now up to 6-8 hours. I feel so much better. I also found getting up and going downstairs to the sofa with lots of blankets works. I usually fall asleep there and then come back to bed when I wake up.
Sunnysideup999 · 12/10/2022 06:55
Tesco do a sleep tea which is amazing.
I think it has valerian root in.
I drink a mug of that before bed and I’m out like a light - no waking
wtfisgoingonhere21 · 12/10/2022 07:00
With you op
I get really bad insomnia at times that lasts for weeks on end.
I also get restless legs quite frequently which totally doesn't help so re sets my sleep routine.
I currently have covid and have been awake since yesterday at 3pm where I only slept for two hours
I've literally been awake all night. I've binge watched Netflix and been on my phone because the minute I try to nod off my legs start so I can't win this week
SirChenjins · 12/10/2022 07:04
A low dose of Trazadone. Best thing ever. Peri menopausal insomnia - tried all the teas, reading, hot milk, no screens, getting up, cool dark room, supplements etc etc etc etc and eventually got this from my GP for anxiety - v welcome side effect is that it sends me right off to a good sleep.
FindingMyself1999 · 12/10/2022 07:30
Hello I did the calm app for 30 mins then fell asleep about ten mins after that. I was getting very wound up and everything I needed to get done today kept floating into my head. According to my sleep app it gave me 5hrs 20 mins sleep but over 2hrs awake. I shifted my alarm to 7am and now running around like a headless and very tired monkey.
