to think all this nonsense about house prices being too high is just that - Nonsense!

DH and I have long been in the property game. We actually met whilst working as Estate Agents back in 1999!

I've seen a lot in my time as an agent - 2008/2009 were a bit of a blip, but overall, there's one thing I've always had faith in, and that's bricks and mortar and that prices always go up. They aren't making more land after all 😁

As well as working in property, we've got a few of our own. We started off as accidental landlords after we got together and kept both our homes to rent out when we decided it was time to move in together and find a place of our own. Over time we've added a few more to the portfolio.

We are lovely landlords. We let our tenants have our houses as their homes, and we like to do little things like send them Christmas hampers, and know their birthdays so we can send a card and usually a Pizza Express voucher.

Anyway, there's a lot of rubbish being written recently about interest rates and the economy affecting the market. Nothing could be further from the truth where we are!

It's still buoyant and the buyers registering at the agency are no different to usual - excited to either 'get on the ladder' or move to their next step towards their eventual forever home😊Vendors are still confident. They agree with us that houses are actually a bit too cheap, all things considered because inflation is quite high.

The one thing I'd have to say is if you can't afford a mortgage at the moment - think about your expectations. You might have thought previously that you could afford a 4 bed, but if you can only get a 3 bed for now is that really so bad? First time buyers especially I feel need to be realistic!

Property always goes up and it's no different now. We're really confident and having seen it all in this game, we really think it's time to believe in the market💪

I hate to mention it but Keir isn’t in charge and he’s not likely to be for the next two years so

I wouldn't bet on that tbh, our government is in total collapse mode right now. I don't think Liz will last til Christmas.

Your assessment of probability is very different to mine. If this lot last another two years I’ll eat my handbag.

I obviously don’t know enough about politics then because I presumed that the general election was two years away and nobody is able to force one before then ?

the tory party could force truss to step down by next year by forcing a no confidence vote...

They don’t even have to do that, they can vote against all her legislation or just abstain. She’d be gone in a month. Then a GE would be inevitable.

Smug is ugly.

DonNotKeith · 12/10/2022 12:10

Our Government is debating on 17th Oct the petition to call an election! Hopefully Labour will protect tenants and take a good look at the evil people farmers.
I wish bad things to happen to every single buy to letter.

A crashed market would be a good place to rebuild social housing stock. Labour has got time to plan and build a policy framework. It's not rocket science after all.

augustusglupe · 12/10/2022 12:14

A pizza express voucher 😂

Explainthis · 12/10/2022 12:15

Wasn't 'buy to let' someone's genius idea to resuscitate the property market in the early 90s? Look at this mess. It should have been binned a long time ago.

Very true. Hopefully we’ll see a big increase in social housing with a Labour government as all those fire sale properties move out of private ownership.

Nursemumma92 · 12/10/2022 12:18

Wow I'm not sure what your intentions were posting this OP other than to get everybody riled up. I'll just tell all the working families I meet at food banks all the time that there is no cost of living crisis and there is no housing crisis here in Cornwall... where the average salary is £20k a year... average house price is £340k, this is roughly what a 3 bed family home costs. Tell me how this is sustainable and affordable. It's great you are in such a fortunate position owning multiple properties but do you not think that working in estate agency gives you a biased view of the general public and their ability to get onto the property ladder? The only people you meet are the ones able to...
Spare a thought for those families that will be choosing between eating and heating this winter before you spout off with your privileged rubbish.

Pixiedust1234 · 12/10/2022 12:21

At the beginning of this year I could afford a decent two or three bed semi in a decent area. Right now I can just about afford a 2 bed inner terrace thats been torn apart in an anti social cesspit of an area. This means i get to stay with an abusive DH who will slowly end up killing me. But thats fine? May you rot in hell 😈

i talk to estate agents as a buyer and as a seller. They keep telling me about the cost of living crisis and how it affects budgets. The thing is even if you are not choosing between heating and eating, you are not going to want to spend as much as you might have prepared to 2 years ago, you would want to be prudent and keep your expenses as low as possible. OP is just deluded.

Except that we are billions in debt and the cost of borrowing is going up. labour will inherit a wasteland and spending cuts will have to happen. However, hopefully under labour, it will not simply be imposed on the poorest in society.

If this is all real, it's very goady and seems designed to wind everyone up.

It's probably one of the most disgusting tone-deaf goady threads I have seen on here for a LONG time. Sadly, as the OP doesn't seem to be breaking any 'Talk Guidelines' not much can be done.

As pps have said, it's just the OP saying 'ooooh I am considerably richer than YOW, and look at all my properties, I am soooo rich, and such a kind landlord, coz I buy a Christmas hamper and pizza vouchers for my tenants. Everyone LOVES me, I have wings dontcha know? I'm such an Angel.' Hmm

I literally feel so grubby reading all the OP's posts. Horrible, condescending thread! I have NO idea of the point of it. It's just a bragfest

Shortname · 12/10/2022 12:31

Yikes OP you seem to have no understanding of the situation a huge percentage of the population are in. I bought a 2 bed flat in 2003 it cost £102k, I was earning £25k. Just checked Rightmove that basic 2 bed flat would now be approx £350k. Wage for equivilant job i had then is approx £27k. People can't just lower their expectations, if you're not already 'on the ladder' it's almost impossible to get on it.

Given the Conservative position in the polls they’re pretty unlikely to do that aren’t they which is why Truss currently has so much support, you can’t deny that however unpalatable it is to all of us.

vera99 · 12/10/2022 12:32

Blossomtoes · 12/10/2022 12:18

Very true. Hopefully we’ll see a big increase in social housing with a Labour government as all those fire sale properties move out of private ownership.

This will be the most popular policy for a lost generation and get the youth to vote out in droves. Private BTL landlords would always have been natural tories anyway and they are a juicy low-hanging fruit for passively shoving them out of a market through policy and their own indebtedness and effectively 'nationalise' their assets. The Tories have already begun that process with the removal of interest relief and proposed no-fault eviction it's easy to keep tightening the vice and the old mantra of the 'social service' they can provide can move to public ownership if there is the will. Probably won't include Pizza Express vouchers though.

New research has revealed the full extent of the growth in the country’s rental sector, which estimates that around 8.7 million homes are now rented privately.
The study by Octane Capital puts the UK in fourth position in the world in terms of the size of its rental market. UK buy-to-let only falls behind the US, Germany and Japan in terms of the number of rented homes it contains.

That is the gist and so the rich will be asked to pay their fair share, they won’t like it, the Tories get voted back in again and so the cycle continues.

suzyscat · 12/10/2022 12:39

Erm you have two jobs, landlord and estate agent. Imo both are parasitical and neither requires any great intellect.

Think I'll swerve your economic advice thanks all the same.

Once again, I disagree. After this I doubt we’ll see another Tory government for a generation - and they’ll have to move significantly to the left to stand a chance. They’ve finally cooked their goose now.

I would agree with that esp if we are bailed out by the IMF. I cannot think of a single rich person who would be happy with that.

She absolutely is struggling, or will be. OP is financially fucked for the next while.
